Elmira Falls In Season Opener to Lycoming
Williamsport, PA -- The Elmira College women's lacrosse team fell 18-11 to Lycoming College (2-0) in the Purple and Gold's first game of the season.
Moorea Spoljaric '16 matched a career-high six goals and added an assist while
Lindsay Wargo '17 tied a career-high 10 saves in the game.
Kelsey Quail '17 scored career-high three goals while
Kylie Connell '17 scored a career-high four points off two goals and two assists in today's action.
Spoljaric scored the game's first goal just 12 seconds in and then scored the second goal of the game just four seconds later to give the EC women a quick 2-0 lead. However, the Warriors would respond with four straight goals to take a 4-2 lead over the Purple and Gold. Spoljaric scored two more goals to tie the game up at 4-4. Lycoming responded with two goals of their own to take a 6-4 lead 3:52 into the game. Connell responded with a goal just 44 seconds later to trail 6-5, however, the Warriors would close the half with four more goals to take a 10-5 lead heading into the locker room.
Lycoming started the second half with three goals to take a 13-6 lead 5:38 into the second half. Quail and Spoljaric would score two goals for the Purple and Goal to trail 13-8, however, the Warriors would score three unanswered goals to take a 16-8 lead. Elmira regrouped and scored three goals of their own to trail 16-11, however Lycoming would close the game scored two more times to take a 18-11 win.
The EC women will compete next on March 14th when the Purple and Gold travel to King's College for a non-conference tilt. EC is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
