HOBOKEN, N.J. (March 8, 2015) – Junior Erika Wilcox scored a game-high five goals Sunday to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team to an 11-8 win over Bates College.

The win evened Stevens' record at 1-1 while Bates fell to 3-2.

Wilcox added a groundball to go along with her scoring outburst while freshman Cami Santor added two goals and two assists. Sophomore Mariel Haubrich chipped-in with one goal and two assists, and Caitlyn Hughes had two assists.

Freshman Stephanie Schnelzer and junior Catie Shelton combined to make eight saves in net.

As a team, the Ducks outshot Bates 27-19 in addition to a 14-7 advantage on draw controls. Stevens also forced 18 Bobcat turnovers.

Stevens struck first with a goal from Wilcox in the first three minutes, but Bates answered with two scores over the next two minutes. Wilcox got the equalizer with a goal off a pass from Santor during the 24th minute before Bates regained the lead with a goal two minutes later.

Both teams went scoreless over the next 14 minutes until Bates extended its lead to 4-2 with a free-position goal. The Ducks refused to give in however, scoring three goals over the final two minutes to take a 5-4 lead in the half. Wilcox started the barrage with a free-position goal before freshman Julianna Ricci and sophomore Caroline DeLuca continued the run with goals with under 30 seconds to go.

Bates tied things up quickly to start the second half, but Santor's goal off a pass from Hughes put the Ducks back on top with 27 minutes remaining. Stevens extended the lead to 7-5 one minute later, but two goals from Bates over the next four minutes knotted the game at seven.

Bates continued its run with a goal one minute later, but it's all they would score the rest of the game. Wilcox tied the game with a goal before Haubrich put the Ducks back on top off a free position goal.

Wilcox continued the run with a goal during the 14 minute mark, followed by an unassisted goal from Santor to cap the Stevens scoring.

The Ducks controlled possession for most of the rest of the half to clinch the win.

Stevens will be back in action March 19 when it travels to Richard Stockton College.
