Elmira Takes Down Oswego; Ithaca Ties; Nazareth Falls

The Elmira College men's tennis team evened their record at 2-2 with a 5-4 victory over Oswego State. The win extends EC's win streak over the Lakers to nine matches, a stretch that spans seven years.
 
The Soaring Eagles found themselves in a battle from the start, but were able to take a 2-1 lead after the completion of doubles. Keith Bujak '15 and Satchal Waters '16 had little trouble at first doubles, as they jumped out to a 5-2 lead and cruised to an 8-3 victory. EC's second doubles team of Austin Mansell '16 and Chris Konow '18 also held a 5-2 advantage, but they dropped consecutive games and went into the changeover with a 5-4 lead. Mansell and Konow regrouped, made some adjustments, and closed out the match 8-4. Oswego picked-up their doubles point at the third position, taking down Scott Ferron '16 and Yaniv Kogan '18, 8-2.
 
The first four singles matches took to the court, and all were close in the early going. Waters was the first to come off the court, expanding EC's lead to 3-1 with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at second singles. Konow followed shortly after, putting the Soaring Eagles one point from victory with a 6-2, 7-5 win at fourth singles. The clinching point came from Mansell, who posted a 6-3, 6-4 win at third singles. The Lakers won the final three matches on the court, which included a three-set defeat for Bujak at the number one spot, to bring the match to a 5-4 final.
 
EC returns to action on Sunday, March 22nd when they host Lycoming College in their final non-conference match of the season. The match is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. in the Murray Athletic Center.

ITHACA 4, Rhodes College 4
HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- The Ithaca College men's tennis team began competition during its spring training trip to South Carolina with a Sunday evening match against Rhodes College. The match ended in a 4-4 tie when the final match was tied in a tiebreaker and the host venue turned off the lights on the match at approximately 11 p.m.

Rhodes won two of three doubles matches, but Ithaca responded with three singles victories of the five completed matches.

Chris HayesWes Davis and Nate Wolf won in singles for the Bombers and the doubles team of Hayes and Lorenzo Viguie-Ramos were victorious at second doubles. Ithaca is 1-2-1 on the season and faces Bloomsburg on Monday.

Hilton Head, S.C.-- The Nazareth men's tennis team kicked off their Spring break tennis action today with a 0-9 loss to Baldwin Wallace.

The Flyers drop to 0-3 overall in their first of five matches this week. The closest match was at third singles, where senior Matt Jennings lost to Nathan Katz 6-4, 6-3. Sophomore Christian Bryant also had a close match at fourth singles losing to Jake Liebler 7-6, 6-4.

In doubles, the Flyers dropped all three doubles matches. At first and third doubles, the duos of Tyler Williams and Jared Sharza, and Matt Jennings and Brian Rosiek each lost 8-1. While junior Scott Trobert and sophomore Christian Bryant were defeated 8-2 at second doubles.
