The Houghton College baseball team beat the Elmira College Soaring Eagles 15-5 Friday night at Houghton College.

The Highlanders, being the away team, got on the board in the top of the first. Enrico Sukhdeo (Georgetown, Guyana, Ashbrook) led things off with an infield single. After Sudkeo beat the throw out at first he stole second to put himself in scoring position. Then Michael Knapp (Brockport, NY, Brockport) came through with a single and an error by a Soring Eagle fielder allowed Sukhdeo to score from third. Michael Kerr (Brentwood, TN, Hamburg ) followed that up with an RBI single that gave the Highlanders a 2-0 lead.

The Highlanders continued to score runs in the second, third, and fourth innings taking a commanding 10-0 lead.

The lead allowed Coach Reitnour to get some young players in. Jordan Mullen (Fillmore, NY, Fillmore) and Trent Buckley (Bath, NY, Haverling ) recorded their first hits of the year.

Seth Cornell (Almond, NY, Alfred-Almond) earned the win for the Highlanders pitching six strong innings, only allowing two earned runs, and striking out 11 Elmira batters.

On the offensive end the Highlanders were led by Kerr who got out of a little slump going three for three with a triple and two RBI.

The Highlanders take on Elmira College again tomorrow in a doubleheader at Elmira College starting at 1 p.m.
