In conjunction with NCAA Division III Week, St. John Fisher College student-athletes participated in the Giant Read for the fifth consecutive year on Friday morning.  Roughly 40 student-athletes traveled to the Joseph C. Wilson Foundation Academy to read the book Crickwing by Janell Cannon to children in kindergarten through second grade.

The book is about a small cockroach that builds food sculptures out of roots, leaves and petals, and through an adventure in the forest, he learns about the value of compassion.

Fisher's student-athletes also helped the children complete worksheets and badges on anti-bullying and participated in group activities and discussions.

Known as the Giant Read, the annual event is part of the READ: Hope in Action Program that aims to promote literacy in the Rochester City School District. The trip was organized by Fisher's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
