Wiktorski's Walk-Off Secures Sweep Over Utica; Stevens Shuts out Misericordia; Canton Falls to St. Lawrence
ST. JOHN FISHER v Utica
The St. John Fisher College baseball team completed a sweep of visiting Utica College on Sunday taking game one 26-4, before winning on a walk-off single at the hands of
Cody Wiktorski for a 2-1 win in game two.
With the four wins on the weekend, Fisher improves to 10-14 overall while Utica falls to 11-7 on the season.
Game One – Fisher 26, Utica 4
Fisher scored at least three runs in each of the first seven innings, as the Cardinals racked up a season highs in both runs (26) and hits (27).
Freshman
Scott Eisenmenger homered twice in the game, going 3-for-4 with five RBI and four runs scored.
Junior
Mike Roman also homered and drove in a career-high seven RBI, while going 3-for-4 with three runs scored.
Senior Matt Cahill tallied a career-high five hits in the game with two runs scored, while
Shane Barley finished with four hits, three runs and three RBI.
Freshman catcher
Victor Konstantinovsky went 3-for-5 with three runs and three RBI.
Calvin Woolhiser doubled and drove in three runs, while
Joe Simmons added three hits and two runs.
Tyler Troccia scored a career-high four runs and finished with two hits, while Wiktorski added a two-run double.
Terry Engels earned his second win of the season on the mound, pitching seven innings with six strikeouts.
Erin Moskal allowed two hits over the final two innings.
Game 2 – Fisher 2, Utica 1
In a game that was originally set for seven innings, Wiktorski delivered a bases loaded single with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning to propel Fisher to a 2-1 win.
Shane Barley and Eisenmenger led off the inning with singles before Woolhiser bunted the runners into scoring position.
Following a walk to
Matthew Cahill, Wiktorski delivered the game-winning hit for Fisher.
The Cardinals broke a scoreless tie in the fifth inning off a 2 out RBI double by Simmons to drive in Wiktorski.
Utica picked up its only run of the game in the sixth inning.
Woolhiser and Wiktorksi combined for four of Fisher's eight hits in the game.
Marc Iseneker picked up his first win of the season striking out five and surrendering one unearned run.
STEVENS
The Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team picked up a 2-0 victory over No. 22/13 Misericordia College on Sunday.
The Ducks picked up their seventh straight victory moving to 15-9 on the year while Misericordia fell to 17-5.
Both pitchers, junior
Jayson Yano for Stevens and Garrett Pelko of the Cougars matched zeroes over the first five innings, but the visiting Ducks struck first in the top of the sixth. Junior
Jonathan Toro rapped a leadoff double down the left field line which was followed up by another double in nearly the same spot by senior
Marc Calleo who knocked in Toro. Through six innings, Yano was excellent, allowed only two hits and was rewarded with an insurance run in the top of the seventh. Senior
Gregg Nickels was hit by a pitch and moved into scoring position via a stolen base. He came around to score on big double by freshman
Tommy Baronner. The Cougars had the tying run at the plate with one out in the ninth, but junior
Ryan Patterson got two pop outs in the infield to close out the game for his fifth save of the year.
Yano tossed eight innings, surrendering three hits while fanning eight. Baronner had two hits while the team hammered five doubles out of their seven hits.
Kyle Lindsay had two hits including a double for Misericordia, who received five and a third innings from Pelko and struck out five.
SUNY CANTON
St. Lawrence University scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to earn a walk-off 3-2 win against SUNY Canton on Sunday.
Both teams were held scoreless through three innings until
Seth Douglas (Reedsburg, WI) led off the fourth with a triple to center.
Chris Roenbeck (Plattsburgh, NY) would bring him home in the next at-bat with a sacrifice fly to right.
The Roos added what looked to be an important insurance run in the seventh. Barton singled through the left side and Demarais moved him to second on a sacrifice bunt. Barton would take third base on a passed ball and
Vinny Bondinello (Egg Harbor, NJ) brought him home on a sacrifice fly.
The Saints rallied to win the game in the bottom of the seventh. With two down in the inning Chris Fernandez doubled to right field and Isaac Lewis followed with a single to left. A passed ball brought Lewis across. After a pair of walks loaded the bases Michael LeFevre singled to left center bringing the game-tying and winning runs across.
Derek Harkin (Ottawa, ON) gave up just five hits and two earned runs over six and two-thirds. He walked six and struck out two. Douglas went 3-for-3, while Barton also had a multi-hit game.
