Ithaca Places Third At Vassar Invitational

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- The Ithaca College women's golf team posted a 15-shot improvement over its first-round score and moved up to finish third in the team standings at the Vassar Golf Invitational. The tournament marked Ithaca's first competitive action of the spring season. Ithaca scored 321 in Sunday's second round for a two-day total of 657. Williams won the tournament with a score of 617 and New York University was second with 632.

The tournament was contested at the Casperkill Golf Club, a par-72 layout that played to 5,852 yards. There were 12 teams in the field and 66 total players.

Sharon Li was the top individual performer for Ithaca. She placed tied for fourth overall with a score of 156. Li shot 77 in the first round and 79 in the second round. She made five birdies during the tournament, which led the field. Kelsey Baker was seventh overall with a score fo 158. After an opening-round 81, Baker came back to shoot 77 on Sunday. Only three players in the field shot a better second-round score than Baker.

Indiana Jones earned a top-15 finish for Ithaca with a two-day total of 164 on an opening-round 83 and a second-round score of 81. Taylor MacDonald had an 11-shot improvement over the tournament. She opened with 95 and then scored 84 on Sunday to help Ithaca overtake Middlebury in the second round. Kyra Denish scored 96-88--184 to round out the Ithaca lineup.

Ithaca will compete next weekend at the Amherst Invitational at Hickory Ridge Golf Club and The Orchards.
