Royals Finish Runner-up At Glenmaura National Collegiate Invitational

MOOSIC, Pa.—Senior Erik Meyer carded a two-over-par 73 to lead The University of Scranton men’s golf team to its second consecutive runner-up finish at the Glenmaura National Collegiate Invitational Monday at Glenmaura National Golf Club.

Meyer finished in a tie for fourth place with a 36-hole total of 150.  

The 3-time champion Royals (2011, 2012, 2013) shot 305 today to finish with a two-day total of 615, 10 strokes back of cross-town neighbor Marywood University, which won its first-ever GNCI title with a 605.  McDaniel College was third (616), followed by Moravian College (624), Susquehanna University (632), Swarthmore College (633), Gettysburg College (635), Muhlenberg College (636), King’s College (643), York College-Pa. (645), Wilkes University (709), and Misericordia University (732).

Junior Eric Montella finished tied for 10th with a 153, freshman Warren Rozella was 16th at 161, including a final round 76, sophomore Kevin Nardella tied for 27th at 161, and junior Ryan Brown tied for 31st at 162 for the Royals.

Nicholas Johnson of Marywood shot back-to-back 73s to win the individual title at 146, edging out teammate Michael Thomas by one stroke.  Mason Woolford of McDaniel was third at 149.

Moravian finished fourth at the two-day Invitational. The Hounds had a second day team score of 317 in Monday's second round on the par 71 Glenmaura National Golf Club course to finish with a 624 overall.
 

Junior Jim Maru paced the Greyhounds with a second day 76 to finish in a tie for sixth of the 60 golfers with a 151. Sophomore Dan Leppert had a 79 in Monday's round to finish tied for 14th at 155 while freshman Tyler Smith tied Maru with a 76 in the second round as he finished in a tie for 18th with a 157 tournament total.

Junior Evan Dickinson carded an 87 in the second round and was tied for 31st with a 162 while freshman Kevin Kunkle had an 86 in Monday's round to finish 47th with a 171.

Susquehanna shot a 632 over the two days with a day one score of 312. Marywood University won the team title with a score of 605. Nicholas Johnson, of Marywood, won the individual title with a score of 146.

Ryan Bruvick was SU's top finisher with a score of 153 (+11). Daniel Wilson finished two shots behind with a score of 155. Connor White shot a 159 while Dylan Gladd finished with a score of 165. Timothy Unkles shot a 185 to round out SU's top five. 

Teams will return to action this Saturday and Sunday, April 18-19, in the final two rounds of the Empire 8 Conference championships at the Hershey Country Club in Hershey, Pennsylvania.  Scranton is currently tied for third-place with Stevens Institute of Technology at 634, five strokes behind Moravian College and 18 back of defending champion St. John Fisher.

The first two rounds of the Empire 8 Conference championships were held in September at the Yahnundasis Golf Club in New Hartford, New York.
