Pioneers Earn Seven Victories At Hamilton's Quad Meet

The Pioneers return to action Sunday when they travel to St. John Fisher College for 2015 Empire 8 Outdoor Track and Field Championships.  The competition will take place at the Poliseni Track and Field Complex. The field events are scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m. followed by the track events at 11:30 a.m.  Alfred University will host the championships.

Corey Zlatniski (Mattituck, NY/Mattituck) edged out a win in the 800 meter run by less than a half of second, clocking a time of 1:57.47.

The UC men jumpers unit controlled their respective events as the Pioneers took first and second in both the high and long jump events.

Rob Tutein (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet) and Shawn Celestin (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet) grabbed first and second place in the high jump as Tutein cleared 1.95 meters followed by Celestin's leap of 1.75 meters.

In the long jump, Michael Visco (Amsterdam, NY /Broadalbin-Perth) was victorious with a soar of 6.38 meters while Michael Cannizzo placed second with a clearance of 6.08 meters.

Throwers Sam Kaczmarek (South Windsor, CT/South Windsor ), Sam Bonk (Williamsville, NY/Clarence) and Andrew Russell (Watertown, NY/Watertown) continued their stellar seasons as the trio posted first place finishes in all the throwing contests. 

Kaczmarek won the shot put with a toss of 14.84 meters while Bonk and Russell took first in the hammer and discus. Bonk hurled the hammer 43.02 meters and Russell swung the disc 44.23 meters.
