Four Empire 8 student-athletes have been named Corvias ECAC Division III Upstate and Players of the Week for the week of April 6-12, 2015.
 
Softball – Upstate
Player of the Week:
Alison Wickwire – Alfred University, Sr., 1B/P, Towanda, Pa.
Wickwire was 4-for-8, with all four hits being home runs for a 2.000 slugging percentage.  She also reached base safely eight other times on walks for an on base percentage of .750.  She hit three homeruns including a grand slam, during a sweep of Utica, and the next day connected for her second grand slam of the weekend during a sweep of Ithaca.  In four games, she drove in 10 runs and scored six others.
 
Softball – Upstate
Pitcher and Rookie of the Week:
Lindsey Thayer – St. John Fisher College, Fr., P, Winthrop, N.Y.
Thayer tallied 75 strikeouts over 45.0 innings pitched for a 0.31 ERA, as Fisher went 5-1 last week.  The freshman recorded her first career no-hitter and the program’s first since 2004, on Sunday in an 8-0 win over Elmira College.  In that doubleheader, she tallied 30 strikeouts out of possible 36.  In the first two games of the week against Pitt-Bradford and Medaille, Thayer threw a pair of one-hitter games.  Her only loss in the week came against Stevens Institute of Technology, where she scattered 11 hits, three runs and four walks with 15 strikeouts over 13.0 innings.
 
Baseball – Upstate
Co-Pitcher of the Week
Jayson Yano – Stevens Institute of Technology, Junior, Foothill Ranch, Calif.
Yano tossed eight shutout innings, allowing just three hits while striking out eight and only walking one in a victory over No. 22/13 Misericordia University. 
 
Men’s Outdoor Track & Field - Upstate
Rookie of the Week
Nick LaBarbera – Nazareth College, Fr., Red Hook, N.Y.
LaBarbera won the 400-meter dash at the ROC City Classic on Saturday as he set a facility record with a time of 49.33 seconds. He also ran on Nazareth's 4 x 400-meter relay that finished second with a school-record time of 3:21.15.
