NAZARETH v HARTWICK
Visiting Nazareth scored seven of the first eight goals of the game and never trailed in a 19-8 women's lacrosse romp over Hartwick Saturday in Empire 8 Conference action.

Nazareth remains in a three-way tie for first place with Stevens (6-1 E8) and St. John Fisher (4-1 E8) in the conference standings by improving to 10-3 overall and 5-1 in the Empire 8. The Golden Flyers host Alfred Wednesday at 4 p.m. for their final regular-season home game. The Golden Flyers close out their schedule with a key game at Stevens Saturday at 9 a.m.

Against the Hawks, sophomore Kate Rothrock amassed a career-high nine points on three goals and six assists. Junior Carly Gates added four goals; freshman Haley DeVona had three goals and three assists and senior Brooke Sullivan had three goals and two assists.

The game was scoreless for nearly seven minutes before Nazareth scored twice within 32 seconds. Rothrock's 19th goal of the season was assisted by sophomore Jamie Martin and Sullivan followed with her 24th goal.

After Hartwick's Emily Jweid scored to cut the lead in half, Nazareth rattled off the next five goals to take control for good. DeVona scored twice and Sullivan and Rothrock each had one goal and one assist. Bri Mancini also scored.

After Hartwick sored again, Gates netted her first goal of the game and 18th of the season with 1:46 left in the half to give Nazareth a commanding 8-2 advantage.

Nazareth opened the scoring in the second half by scoring three times in a 51-second span to expand the lead to 11-2. Rothrock assisted on all three goals -- first to DeVona and the next two to Gates. Martin, sophomores Leah Marvin and Heather Groot and freshmen Katie Carroll and Morgan Johnson also scored in the second half for the Golden Flyers, who had advantages in shots (36-24), ground balls (21-17) and draw controls (19-10). Gates won five draws and had three ground balls and three caused turnovers. Senior Ashley Kirch and freshman Mackenzie Corbett each played in goal for Nazareth. Kirch had 10 saves and allowed six goals in just over 51 minutes of action. Corbett had two saves with two goals allowed.
 

UTICA v ELMIRA
The Utica College women's lacrosse team defeated host Elmira College 20-11 in Empire 8 Conference action Saturday. Freshman Brooke Miller(Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) netted a career-high eight points on seven goals and one assist. Senior Megan Kane (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) added three goals and four assists for the Pioneers.

UC has now won four of its last five games and improved to 8-4 overall on the season. The Pioneers are also 3-2 in Empire 8 play this season.  Elmira's record moved to 2-12 and 1-6 in the E8.

Five players scored at least two goals for the Pioneers including Miller (seven), Megan Kane (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) (three), Patricia Kane (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) (three), Courtney Wheeler(Ava, NY/Rome Free Academy) (two) and Morgan DuPont (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park) (two).

The Pioneers jumped out to a convincing 8-2 lead in the first 18:11 of the contest and never looked back.  UC led 13-7 at the half and outscored the home team 7-4 in the final 30 minutes to register the nine goal victory.

Utica's Kells Casey (Sandwich, MA/Kimball Union Academy) and Erin Jacobson (Staten Island, NY/Curtis)combined for seven saves between the pipes for the Pioneers. 

Utica's Rebecca Plunkett (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) added three draw controls and one goal whileMelissa Koch (Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse Minoa) also added a goal for the Pioneers.  Megan Kane(Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) recorded four draw controls and three caused turnovers. 

Marissa Mongillo and Ashton Hogan led the Soaring Eagles with four goals each.

Utica outshot the Soaring Eagles 30-27 on the day and also won the draw control battle 17-16.  Elmira's Lindsay Wargo stopped eight shots in the loss.


STEVENS v ALFRED
Sophomore Kathleen Kalbianand freshman Cami Santor each scored three goals to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology women's across team past Alfred University 16-2.
 
The Ducks ran their winning streak to three and moved their record to 11-3, 6-1 E8 while the Saxons dropped to 2-8, 0-5 E8.
 
Alfred opened the scoring 4:11 into the game, on an unassisted tally by Kaitlyn Button. Stevens answered back 2:22 later sophomore Caroline DeLuca scored on a free position shot. After junior Erika Wilcox corralled the ensuing draw, Santor came down and gave the visitors a 2-1 lead 53 seconds after the first goal. Once again, the Ducks took control of the draw and netted a third marker in under a minute, this time from senior Caitlyn Hughes.
 
The next seven minutes went by before freshman Julianna Ricci notched a goal from Kalbian, but the Saxons answered with 10:56 left as Button added her second of the game to cut the deficit to two. Kalbian and Santor scored 59 apart to give the Ducks a 6-2 halftime lead. Stevens had 24 shots in the opening 30 minutes while scooping up 14 ground balls and had a 9-0 edge in draw controls.
 
Hughes, Wilcox, DeLuca and Santor all scored within the first six minutes of the second period with DeLuca and Wilcox also tallying assists. Senior Andrea Dragoni and sophomore Jess Leiby finished the scoring for the Ducks, with Leiby netting a man-up goal.
 
Stevens held a 45-3 edge in shots, while finishing with 24 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers. Kalbian finished with five points on seven shots and a game high nine draw controls while Wilcox had three points, 11 shots and five ground balls. Six players finished with multiple goals and 10 different players registered a point in the contest.
 
Button had two both goals for the Saxons while contributing two ground balls, three draw controls and two caused turnovers while Shannon Gray made 20 saves.


ITHACA v Houghton
The Ithaca College women's lacrosse team defeated Houghton 17-3 in Empire 8 action on Saturday, April 18, at Burke Field. Ithaca improves its conference record to 4-2 and is now 8-7 overall on the season. Houghton is now 5-8 and 2-3 in the Empire 8.

Twelve student-athletes recorded goals for Ithaca.

The Bombers started off strong, scoring three quick goals in the first four minutes of play. JuniorRiley Marion scored the first Ithaca goal and then assisted junior Ally Runyon's goal to give Ithaca a 2-0 lead.  Senior Niki Standera put Ithaca up 3-0 with a successful free position shot. Houghton recorded its first goal of the day with 25:25 left in the first half.

Ithaca then scored seven unanswered points, extending its lead 10-1. The Highlanders snuck one past the Bombers' defense with 10 minutes left in the first half. Freshman Devon Laidman scored the final goal of the first half for Ithaca on a pass from Gaby Berne. The Bombers led 11-2 at the half.

Ithaca scored four unanswered goals in the first 12 minutes of the second half. The Bombers held Houghton to one goal in the second half at 5:51, making the score 15-3 in favor of Ithaca. Ithaca scored twice more in the half to determine the final score, 17-3.

Juniors Ally Runyon and Riley Marion led the team with three goals each. Marion added two assists, while Runyon recorded one against Houghton. Niki Standera had two goals on the day.

Gaby Berne recorded a team-best three assists, in addition to a goal for the Bombers. Emily Peters,Morgan RacicotDelaney GilsonMackenzie RobinsonTaylor BradyOlivia Oppenheim and Devon Laidman all contributed a goal each in the game. Both Gilson and Oppenheim further added to Ithaca's offense with an assist each.

Robinson scooped a team-high four groundballs. Natalie Lang and Marion each recorded three groundballs in the game.

Sophomore goalie Emily Ross made one save in the win. Freshmen Kelsey Fee and Kimberly Presutoalso saw time in goal for the Bombers. Presuto made two saves against the Highlanders.

Ithaca led Houghton 37-9 in shots and held a decisive edge of 27 groundballs to the Highlanders' 17. The Bombers were successful on 8-of-10 clear opportunities.
