Fisher and Ithaca Pick Up E8 Wins; Utica Grabs First Win
ST. JOHN FISHER v ELMIRA (Results)
The St. John Fisher College men's tennis team earned a 7-2 victory against visiting Elmira College on Sunday. The Cardinals improve to 7-7 overall and 4-2 in the Empire 8 Conference.
Kevin Kulawiec, Patrick McGrath and
Adam Moran combined for five points between singles and doubles action. Kulawiec claimed first singles 6-3, 6-1. He paired up with Moran at second doubles and won 8-5. McGrath earned the victory at second singles, 6-1, 6-2. Alongside
Jacob Zarzycki, the duo won first doubles 8-1.
Elmira won its two points at third and fifth singles.
ITHACA v NAZARETH (
Results)
The Ithaca College men's tennis team returned to Empire 8 action on Sunday morning and the Bombers responded with a 7-2 win over visiting Nazareth at the Wheeler Tennis Courts. Ithaca won two of three doubles matches and five of six singles matches on the afternoon. Ithaca is 6-7-1 overall and 4-1 in the Empire 8. Nazareth is 2-12 overall and 2-4 in the conference.
Ithaca got on the board with an 8-1 win at first doubles by
Jack Melhorn and
Wes Davis.
Chris Hayes and
Lorenzo Viguie-Ramos followed with an 8-4 win at second doubles.
Davis and Hayes made quick work of their opponents in singles play, as the duo dropped just one game in total and advanced Ithaca's lead to 4-1 in the team score.
Nate Wolf clinched the team victory with a 6-3, 6-1 win at fifth singles. Melhorn and Viguie-Ramos also won in singles.
UTICA v Sage
The Utica College men's tennis team won its first match of the season Sunday as it defeated The Sage Colleges, 6-3, at the UC Tennis Courts.
Junior
Matt Rogers won his singles match beating Sage's No. 2 by scores of 6-1 and 6-0 and also teamed up with Joe Castellitto (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) for a win in doubles competition, 8-2.
