Hartwick Defeats SUNY Delhi 7-2
DELHI, NY – Hartwick won for the third time in four matches on Monday with a 7-2 victory over SUNY Delhi. The Hawks swept all three doubles matches and won four of six singles to improve their overall record to 3-5.
Two of the doubles matches went down to the wire.
Liam Brown (Suffield, CT/Suffield) and
John Talbot (Middlesex, NY/Marcus Whitman) outlasted Max Fontana and Troy Osborne 8-6 at second doubles. The duo is now 3-5 on the year.
Jefferson Monastoque (Heredia, Costa Rica/Blue Valley) and
Sean Coppola (Canastota, NY/Canastota) earned a 9-7 victory at third doubles in their match against Robert Zawadzki and Masaya Tanabe.
Seniors
Brian Redder (Marion, NY/Williamson) and
Will Gilbraith (West Monroe, NY/Paul V. Moore) improved to 4-4 on the season with an 8-3 win over Sugura Kaneda and Kazuho Honda at first doubles.
Talbot, Redder, Gilbraith, and Coppola each won their singles matches. Talbot defeated Kaneda 6-3, 6-1 for his third win of the year. Redder and Gilbraith each improved to 4-4. Redder beat Fontana, 6-2, 6-1. Gilbraith won his match over Honda, 6-1, 6-2. Coppola won his first singles match of the season with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Tanabe.
The men's tennis team is idle until Saturday, April 25 when it hosts Ithaca College in an Empire 8 Conference match.
