Ithaca Tops Elmira; Stevens Extends Streak; Houghton Splits

ITHACA v Elmira
The Ithaca College baseball team picked up a 9-4 home victory over Elmira on Tuesday afternoon to improve to 12-10 on the season. Ithaca recorded 11 hits in the win, including five doubles.

The Bombers jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings of play. In the bottom of the second, junior Zach Cole led off with a single and was followed by a double from senior Christian Brown. A passed ball allowed Cole to score and a sacrifice fly from junior Cameron Oathout brought in Brown. Senior Cooper Belyea kept the inning alive with a hit by pitch and came around to score on a double from sophomore Josh Savacool for the final run.

Ithaca tacked on four more runs in the third inning of four hits. Junior Zach Pidgeon started things off with a one-out single and scored on a double by Brown with two outs. Brown then scored on an error before an RBI double from freshman Domenic Boresta and RBI single by Belyea capped off the inning. Oathout scored on the double and Boresta scored on Belyea's base hit.

Two more runs crossed in the sixth for the Bombers to give them a 9-0 advantage. Sophomore Ryan Henchey and Savacool scored Ithaca's runs after reaching on a hit by pitch and walk. Senior Matt Connolly and Thompson singled to drive in the runs.

Elmira cracked the scoreboard with a run in the seventh inning and added three more in the ninth to account for the final score.

Senior Zach Dickstein picked up his third victory of the season in seven innings of work. Dickstein struck out a career-high nine batters and scattered five hits with one earned run allowed.

Fellow senior Jared Amory tossed 1.1 innings in relief and fanned two, while junior Ryan Contegni threw the final two-thirds with one strikeout.

Brown, Pidgeon and Savacool all collected two hits in the win. Brown went 2-for-2 with two doubles, two runs and an RBI. Pidgeon scored a run and went 2-for-4 at the plate, while Savacool batted 2-for-4 with a run scored and RBI.


STEVENS v Baruch
The Stevens Institute of Technology baseball saw its winning streak improve to six straight with a victory over Baruch College 12-3 on Tuesday.
 
The Ducks have won 12 of their last 13, while improving to 21-10 on the year while Baruch fell to 10-18.
 
Stevens tacked the first run on the board in their first at bat, with sophomore Zeph Walters knocking in junior Jonathan Toro on a sacrifice fly. The visitors added another run in the top of the second on an RBI groundout from sophomore Nolan Bennett. The Bearcats knotted the score at two with a run in both the second and third innings. Zachary Uher delivered a solo homer to bring the hosts within one which was followed up in the third inning on a run scoring single by Eric Ulino.
 
The rest of the game belonged to the Ducks starting off in the fourth inning with five runs. Junior Jayson Yano led off with a single and moved to third on a double by classmate Nick Sieber. After a strikeout, sophomore Michael Mule' walked to load the bases. Bennett drew a bases loaded walk to drive in a run, and senior Marc Calleo was plunked to score Sieber. Toro grounded out to the shortstop to bring Mule' around and the big blow of the inning was a two-run single by freshman Tommy Baronner. Baruch got a run back in the bottom of the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Ulino.
 
Stevens added a run in the top of the sixth when Toro was nailed by a pitch, moved to second on a groundout and promptly swiped third base. With Walters at the plate, Toro scampered home on a walk pitch to add to the lead. The Ducks added the final four runs in the top of eighth on three hits. Bennett led off with a double and moved to third on a groundout. He would come around on a wild pitch as Toro walked. After a walk to Baronner, both runners moved up on a wild pitch and Walters was walked to load the bases. Yano delivered a big double to plate two men, and Sieber drove in another run with a ribbie single.
 
Baronner and Yano had three hits and two RBI's each, while Sieber, Toro and Mule' all had multiple hit outings. Senior Peirce Marston started tossed six innings allowing one earned run with four strikeouts while sophomore Will Korosec fanned two in his one inning of work.
 
Matthew Ballone and Uher each had two hits for the Bearcats.


HOUGHTON v Alfred State
The Houghton College baseball team split the doubleheader Tuesday afternoon against the Alfred State Pioneers. The Pioneers took game one by the score of 6-3 and The Highlanders won the night cap by the score of 12-2.

In game one the Highlanders were led by Michael Kerr (Brentwood, TN, Hamburg ) and Bryan Hodge (Thornton, CO, Community Christian). Kerr went two for three with two RBI and Hodge went one for four with two RBI. The win was given too Matt Nawrot and Edward Monthie (Albany, NY, Christian Brothers Academy) was credited with the loss.

In game two the Highlanders were led by Bryan Hodge (Thornton, CO, Community Christian)Trenton Unverdorben (Portville, NY, Portville), and Enrico Sukhdeo (Georgetown, Guyana, Ashbrook). Johnson went four for four with two RBI, Unverdorben went two for three with two RBI, and Sukhdeo went two for three with a walk.

Alexander Gowing (Burlington, ON, Canada, Robert Bateman) was credited with the win pitching four strong innings only allowing two earned runs and three hits.

The split made the Highlander 15-16 on the year and the Pioneers 9-21.

In game one the Highlanders took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Garret Kirkpatrick (York, PA, Central York) hit a double into center field that scored Kerr from second.

The Pioneers took regained the lead in the second inning scoring four runs on four hits.

After a scoreless third and fourth innings Alfred scored two more runs to take a 6-1 lead.

In the next half inning Hodge hit a two RBI double down the left field line to cut the Pioneers lead to three, but the Highlanders failed to score any runs in the seventh.

In game two the Highlanders got on the board first in the top of the second when Kirkpatrick hit a double that scored Johnson from second.

The Pioneers came right back in the bottom half of the inning and tied the game up at one.

In the top of the third the Highlanders rallied scoring seven runs on six hits highlighted by Johnson's two RBI single and Tanner Hoffman's (Kingston, ON, Canada, Holy Cross Secondary) hit a two RBI single.

The Pioneers got one run back in the bottom half of the inning, but the Highlanders came right back in the top of the fourth. Scoring three runs on two hits and took advantage of an Alfred error.

The Highlanders added on the another run in the fifth when Unverdorben hit a single into center field that scored Kerr from second and gave the Highlanders a 12-2 lead.
