Payne Claims Medalist Honors at Elmira College Spring Invitational

Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College men's golf team concluded the 2014-15 season this afternoon with a second place finish at the EC Spring Invitational. Headlining today's season finale was
Brandon Payne '17 who claimed medalist honors for the first time in his collegiate career.
Payne's first-place finish is not only a career first, it is also his fourth top-10 finish of his two-year Elmira career. The Hastings, NY native carded an invitational-best 81 to win today's event, edging teammate
Evan Clarke '15 and Oswego State's Omari Howard by a single stroke.
Clarke, who shot an 82 in the final event of his collegiate career, claimed a runner-up finish despite tying Oswego's Howard thanks to a birdie on the fifth hole. One stroke behind Clarke was Niall O'Connor '15, who was also playing in the final collegiate event of his career, claimed a career-best fourth-place finish.
Elmira also had three other players finish inside the top-10, including
Jessy Lawson '16,
Jake Lawson '16, and
Troy Gordon '15. The Lawson brothers turned in scores of 84 and 86, with Jessy finishing tied for fifth and Jake in eighth.
Jessy Lawson's 84 is the second-best score of his career while his fifth place finish is a career-high.
Jake Lawson turned in a career-high eighth-place finish while his 86 is the second-best score of his career. Gordon on the other hand concluded his EC career by shooting an 87 as he tied for ninth place.
