Matt Morrison Wins Douglas McDevitt Award
ITHACA, N.Y. – The Upper New York State Collegiate Swimming Association recently named Ithaca College diver
Matt Morrison the recipient of the Douglas McDevitt Award. The UNYSCSA honor is reserved for graduating seniors.
Criteria for the award includes having an outstanding ability as a swimmer or diver, meeting acceptable academic standards of the competitor's school, having competed successfully during the just-completed swimming season, having outstanding performance at the conference championships and having a distinguished performance at a higher level of competition.
Morrison concluded his career at Ithaca College with two more All-America honors, placing third in 3-meter diving and fourth in 1-meter diving at the NCAA Championships. He swept both boards at the UNYSCSA/Empire 8 Meet, giving him two all-state titles and Diver of the Meet honors for the third-straight season. Morrison was named Empire 8 and ECAC Diver of the Week on Jan. 26.
He finished his career with six All-American honors, marking the sixth highest total in program history. Morrison holds every Ithaca diving record, most recently breaking his own marks during his senior campaign in 1-meter diving (six dives) and 3-meter diving (six dives) with scores of 374.20 and 395.55, respectively. Morrison's effort earned him Empire 8 Diver of the Year honors for the second-straight season.
