Hartwick Blanks Sage For Fourth Win

TROY, NY – Hartwick men's tennis was a perfect 9-for-9 on Thursday in a shutout victory over host The Sage Colleges. The victory ups the Hawks' season record to 4-5. They have now won four of their last five matches.
           
The Hawks rolled to three wins in doubles play, losing only a combined four games. Brian Redder (Marion, NY/Williamson) and Will Gilbraith (West Monroe, NY/Paul V. Moore) improved to 5-4 on the season with an 8-1 win at first doubles. John Talbot (Middlesex, NY/Marcus Whitman) and Liam Brown (Suffield, CT/Suffield) were winners at second doubles, 8-2. Jefferson Monastoque (Heredia, Costa Rica/Blue Valley) and Ross Braue (Canastota, NY/Canastota) earned an 8-1 win in the third flight.
           
Talbot was victorious over Kirsten Ackerman in first singles, 1-6, 6-2, 1-0. He improves to 4-5 on the season. Redder, Gilbraith, and Monastoque each got their fifth win of the year at second, third, and fifth singles, respectively. Redder defeated Gerard Beaudin, 7-5, 6-2. Gilbraith beat Mark Castillo, 6-1, 6-0. Monastoque won against Khademe Osbourne, 6-0, 6-1.
           
Brown also was a winner at fourth singles. He beat Troy Hansen, 6-2, 6-2. Braue won 6-1, 6-0 in the sixth flight to close out the shutout.
           
The Hawks return home for a home match against the Ithaca College Bombers on Saturday, April 25 at 1 p.m.
