Canton, Fisher and Stevens Earn Wins

STEVENS 22, Elmira 4
The Stevens Institute of baseball team had seven players record multiple RBI days as they rolled to a 22-4 victory over Elmira College on Sunday.
 
Every starter collected at least one hit, and the pitching staff held the Soaring Eagle bats to only five hits while collecting 27 as a unit. The team improved to 25-10 overall, while Elmira fell to 2-26.
 
The Soaring Eagles got on the board first with a pair in the bottom of the first as Rey Colon knocked in an RBI single and a sacrifice fly by Dennis Rudolph that plated Colon. After that, it was all Stevens.
 
Junior Jayson Yano doubled in a run in the top of the third, and came around to score on a groundout by fellow junior Nick Sieber. The Ducks tacked another run on in the following inning on a run-scoring single by senior Marc Calleo. The guests a trio of runs in the top of the sixth as sophomore Zeph Walters reached on an infield single that scored senior Gregg Nickels, while Sieber drove in two more runs with a single.
 
The big blast came in the top of the sixth when Nickels belted his first homer of the season to left field for two runs, and Walters touching home a wild pitch. In a four-run seventh inning, Calleo doubled in a run, Walters and Yano had RBI hits, and Sieber knocked in Nickels on a groundout.
 
Hayden Rothenberg and Bryce Plante each had RBI outs for the Soaring Eagles in the seventh and eighth innings respectively, but the Ducks finished them off in the top of the ninth by putting up a nine spot. John Sideris and Tyler Bush had RBI singles and Yano capped off his career day with a two-run double to left center. Junior Robert Robbins started and earned his fourth win of the year tossing five innings with seven strikeouts.
 
Yano finished 6-for-6 on the afternoon with four RBIs while Walters was a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs scored. Nickels, Sideris, Bush, and Calleo all had two RBIs while Sieber recorded four RBIs.
 
Rotherberg and Colon each had an RBI and a hit.


ST. JOHN FISHER 5, ITHACA 2
After winning two games on Saturday at Ithaca College, the St. John Fisher College baseball program completed the three-game sweep, as the Cardinals came through with a 5-2 win over the host Bombers on Sunday.

With the win, Fisher improves to 18-16 overall and is 12-2 in its last 14 games.

Pitcher Terry Engels (3-2) went all nine innings for Fisher, allowing two unearned runs on just four hits and one walk with five strikeouts.

Fisher scored the first five runs in the game and took the lead for good in the first inning with Scott Eisenmenger delivering a two-out double to score Shane Barley.

The Cardinals added two more runs in the fifth with Joe Simmons' two-run double scoring Matthew Cahill and Victor Konstantinovsky.

In the eighth inning, Cody Wiktorski, who led Fisher with three hits on the day, singled in Barley and scored on an RBI-single from Cahill.

Cahill and Barley each finished the day with two hits, with Barley scoring two runs.


CANTON v Alfred State
John Mancini (Scotia, NY) threw one inning in relief to earn the win and Keenan Shannon (Ballston Spa, NY) posted three hits as the SUNY Canton baseball team defeated Alfred State College 4-3 on Senior Day.

The Roos honored their four seniors Dom Deliberti (Staten Island, NY), Chris Jones (Deerfield Beach, FL), Mancini and Shannon prior to today's contest. The seniors shined brightly on Senior Day, all making their impact in the contest.

Delberti got the start scattering eight hits and three earned runs over seven innings striking out a pair of batters as he got the no-decision. Mancini did not surrender a hit striking out a batter in one inning of relief to earn the win. Shannon had a big day at the plate going 3-for-4 scoring once and Jones posted one hit and scored twice including the game-winning run.

Alfred State (11-22) took the early lead on an RBI ground out in the top of the second. SUNY Canton bounced right back as Travis Schindler's (West Islip, NY) ground out to short scored Jones. The Roos (10-26) took a 2-1 lead on an RBI single to left field from Seth Douglas (Reedsburg, WI) in the third.

The Pioneers knotted the game once again on a base hit in the fourth and took the lead with a double to left in the sixth. In an entertaining game, SUNY Canton tied the game at 3-3 on an infield single by Brandon Welch (Constable, NY) and Shannon scored on the ensuing error.

SUNY Canton would take the lead for good in the bottom of the eighth as Jones reached on a lead-off single to right field. Shannon followed suit with a hit moving the lead run to third. Welch executed a terrific bunt legging out the single and giving the Roos the 4-3 lead.

Robbie Osterer (Ottawa, ON) threw one inning of scoreless ball to earn the save. With one out and the tying run on first Christian Nazario-Cruz (Naguabo, Puerto Rico) made a terrific play in center field running down a ball in right center that could have saved a run. Welch gunned down the Alfred State runner at first base to end the game.
