Hartwick Drops Match to SUNY Oneonta in Season Finale
ONEONTA, NY – Visiting SUNY Oneonta defeated Hartwick College's men's tennis team 9-0 on Tuesday in the final match of the season for the Hawks. 'Wick finishes the campaign with a 4-8 overall record. The Hawks end the season winners of four of their final eight matches.
Two of the Hawks' doubles matches were tightly contested. In the first flight, seniors
Brian Redder (Marion, NY/Williamson) and
Will Gilbraith (West Monroe, NY/Paul V. Moore) were narrowly beaten by Oneonta's Ben Leighton and Mackenzie Park, 8-6. At third doubles,
Jefferson Monastoque (Heredia, Costa Rica/Blue Valley) and
Sean Coppola (Canastota, NY/Canastota) were edged 8-5 to Red Dragons Cole Lafittee and Joe Morris.
The match marked the final one for seniors Redder, Gilbraith, Monastoque, and Coppola. Redder ends his career with 15 singles victories and 14 in doubles play. Gilbraith won 10 singles matches as a Hawk to go along with nine doubles wins. Monastoque was a victor in nine singles and five doubles matches. Coppola won four in singles and five in doubles matches.
