NAZARETH
Junior throwers Luis Rivera and Brandon Vuolo each broke school records Thursday as Nazareth's men's and women's track and field teams competed at the University of Rochester's Alumni Invitational at Fauver Stadium. The men's team placed 10th with 32 team points.

Rivera, who earned All-American honors in the weight throw during the indoor season, broke his own school record in the hammer throw for the second week in a row. He finished first at UR with a heave of 51.69 meters (169 feet, 7 inches). That was five inches farther than his best throw at last week's Emory Invitational.

Vuolo placed fifth in the shot put  and broke his own school record with a toss of 13.76 meters (45 feet, 1 3/4 inches). He also finished fourth in the hammer throw with a distance of 44.14 meters (144 feet, 10 inches) and 14th in the discus with a distance of 34.03 meters (111 feet, 8 inches).

Other top performers in the men's competition included freshman Nick LaBarbera, who finished third in the 400-meter dash (:49.86) and sixth in the 200-meter dash (:23.60); junior Patrick Neureuter, who placed 17th in the 5,000-meter run (16:36.19); sophomore Matt Battaglia, who finished 21st in the 1,500-meter run with a personal-best outdoor time of 4:17.54; and sophomore Jacob Murray, who placed 19th in the 800-meter run (2:04.21).

UTICA
The Utica College men's  track and field team opened up its outdoor season Thursday at the University of Rochester Alumni Invitational.  UC was led by Nicodemus Gambill on the men's side with 13 points.

The men placed seventh (56 points) while the women placed ninth (31 points).  The Pioneers return to action next Saturday, April 4th as they head to Bethlehem, PA for the Coach P Open hosted by Moravian College.  The competition will take place at the Timothy Breidegam Track and is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m.

Gambill totaled 13 points for the men in two events as he placed second in the 200 dash and fourth in the 100 dash.  Gambill registered a time of 22.72 in the 100 and a clock of 11.23 in the 100.

Sam Bonk and Sam Kaczmarek tallied second and third in the shot put as Bonk hurled it 14.33 meters followed by Kaczmarek's toss of 14.13 meters.

Jumper Michael Visco grabbed six points for the Pioneers in the triple jump with a third place tally clearing 12.77 meters.  Shawn Celestin added five points in the high jump with a clearance of 1.80 meters.

The men's 3200 meter relay squad worked a fifth place finish recording a time of 8:34.06.  The team, consisting of Samuel Adarkwa, Erik Winberg, Jamie McNamara and Karsten Baragelata, registered five points for UC.
