Cardinals Well-Represented At Colonial Relays
The St. John Fisher College women's track and field team capped off a remarkable weekend at the Colonial Relays on Saturday, hosted by The College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va. Fisher's weekend included several broken school records, along with ECAC and NYSCTC qualifying standards against Division I, II, and III competition.
Sammy VanGee established the program's first-ever mark in the 10K, notching a 39:20.67 to hit the NYSCTC A standard.
Sarah Coon's time of 4:54.79 in the 1500 meter run was .79 seconds off the NYSCTC A standard and just over one second off her own school record.
Paige Willson continued her stellar streak of performances at the three-day event recording a fifth-place finish in the Championship heat of the shot put in an ECAC-qualifying throw of 12.62 meters.
Alyssa Mountain and Taylor Youngkrans notched strong performances in the discus throw, with tosses of 31.56 meters and 29.26 to finish in 11th place and 13th place, respectively.
In other field action, Meg Vona earned a trip to ECACs after her jump of 10.96 meters in the triple jump earned her a 13th-place finish.
On Thursday,
Paige Willson and
Taylor Youngkrans competed in the only event of the day, the hammer throw. Youngkrans broke her own school record on three consecutive throws, with the final toss of 46.99 meters earning her a sixth place finish in the Championship University heat. Wilson mustered a toss of 36.85 meters to finish seventh in the University division.
On Friday, Willson hit the NYSCTC B standard in the javelin with a throw of 25.71 meters to finish in 29th place.
Along with Willson, Ronni Ehlers and Chelsea Cleveland matched the NYSCTC B standard in their respective events of the 400 hurdles and 200 meter dash. Ehlers finished the 400 hurdles in 1:11.09, while Cleveland notched a 27.30 in the 200.
Morgan Mastin clocked a 1:00.87 in the 400 meter dash to place 62nd. The senior went on to break her own school record in the 200 by .02 seconds with a time of 26.43, good enough for an ECAC qualifying mark.
Allison Corretore notched a jump of 4.9 meters in the long jump.
