Ithaca Women Win Ramapo Invitational

MAHWAH, N.J. – The Ithaca College women's track & field program opened up its spring season with a team victory at the Ramapo College Invitational on Friday and Saturday in Mahwah, N.J. Ithaca scored 136.5 points over the weekend which was 53 points ahead of the runner-up, Fairleigh Dickinson – Florham.

Cortland placed third with 77 points and Monroe College followed in fourth with 74 points.

Two 4x100-meter relay teams placed within the top four. Team "A" full of juniors Eliza Dewart, Elizabeth Dowling, Rachel Friedman and Christine Kelly clocked a time of 49.76 seconds. Juniors Emily Williams and Sarah Werner, and sophomores Rose Paskoff and Colleen Smith, made up the "B" squad and finished in 50.60 seconds.

Senior Christine Benway was a runner-up in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15:32 seconds. Senior Leigh Martino posted a time of 1:06.43 in the 400-meter hurdles to finish third.

Dewart also competed in the 400-meter dash and crossed the line in 58.53 seconds to finish in third, while freshman Sophia Feuer took fifth in 1:00.39. Graduate student Allison Bartkowiak ran a time of 19:01.46 in the 5,000-meter run to place fourth overall.

Freshman Taryn Cordani finished the 1,500-meter run in a time of 5:00.82 which was good for fifth overall. Sophomore Michaela Cioffredi took ninth in the 1,500, but eighth in points with a time of 5:04.27.

The 4x800 relay team of Cordani, Cioffredi , sophomore Kristin Lynn and junior Anna Fay combined for a time of 10:00.44 to come in fourth.

Senior Carolyn Malone and freshman Denise Ibarra both entered the 3,000-meter steeplechase.  Malone finished in 12:20.10 taking fifth, while Ibarra finished in sixth with a time of 12:20.33.

Werner and Dowling placed seventh and eighth, respectively, in the 100-meter dash in a deadlock at 12.92 seconds. Freshman Sierra Grazia came in eighth overall in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:26.17.

Grazia, sophomore Colleen Smith, freshman Kassandra Reagan and senior Brittany Greene came in sixth with a time of 4:18.33 in the 4x400 relay.

In field events, junior Alex Rechen and freshman Katherine Pitman were the top two performers in the pole vault with cleared heights of 3.50 meters (11 feet, 5.75 inches) and 3.35 meters (10' 11.75").

Benway placed third in the long jump with a distance of 5.29 meters (17', 4.25") which was good for third. Senior Emilia Scheemaker measured out 5.09 meters (16' 8.5") to take eighth overall.

Scheemaker was a second place finisher in the triple jump with a mark of 11.60 meters (38' 0.75"), while freshman Grace Ryan was fifth in 10.99 meters (36' 0.75") and sophomore Lexi Clavet was eighth at 10.62 meters (34' 10.25").

Sophomore Natalie Meyer produced a fourth place finish in the high jump with a mark of 1.58 meters (5' 2.25").

Sophomore Yvonne Palacios and freshman Charis Lu rounded out Saturday's portion of the meet with fourth and sixth place showings in the discus. Palacios measured a throw of 36.14 meters (118', 7") and Lu reached 34.98 meters (114', 9").

On Friday, seven Bombers finished within the top eight in the hammer throw and shot put events.

Ithaca took third thru sixth and eighth place in the hammer throw to account for 19 team points – one participant competed unattached and won the event. Senior Kristina Stockburger placed the highest for Ithaca in third overall with a mark of 44.94 meters (147', 5"). Sophomore Brandy Smith was next in fourth with a distance of 44.43 meters (145' 9") and classmate Francesca Boylan followed in fifth at 44.00 meters (144' 4"). Senior Corinne Taylor took sixth in 42.64 meters (139' 11") and freshman Caitlin Noonan rounded out the hammer for Ithaca in eighth with a performance of 39.13 meters (128' 4").

In the shot put, Taylor came in fifth with a distance of 11.41 meters (37' 5.25") and Boylan placed seventh in 11.31 meters (37' 1.25").

The Stevens Institute of Technology women's outdoor track and field participated in the Ramapo College Invitational on Saturday. The women were led by junior Gladys Njoku, who competed for the first time since taking home an NCAA National Championship at the Indoor Championships back in March. Njoku and Taylor Hudson of SUNY Cortland each jumped 1.68 meters but Njoku only needed one jump to reach the previous mark of 1.63 while Hudson needed two. Senior Amira Dardirplaced sixth in the event, reaching a height of 1.58-meters. Sophomore Kaela Earrusso and freshman Samantha Rokicsak each recorded top-15 finishes in 800-meter, with seniorChristine Hecker placing ninth in the 5K.
