Fisher Sweeps Pitt-Bradford
The St. John Fisher College softball team earned its first sweep of the year over visiting University of Pittsburgh at Bradford on Monday afternoon. The Cardinals improved to 12-4 overall, while the Panthers fall to 5-13.
Fisher 10, Pitt-Bradford 0 (6 innings)
Lindsey Thayer struck out 13 of 20 batters faced in a complete game shutout. The freshman limited the Panthers to just one hit and one walk over the six innings.
With the win, Thayer improves to 5-2 overall with four shutouts on the year.
The Cardinals totaled 13 hits, including five in the bottom of the sixth inning where they clinched the win.
Lauren Owens homered to record the three RBI that sealed the mercy rule decision.
Owens finished the game 2-for-4 with four RBI and one run.
Katie Mazierski, who stole two bases, and
Jennifer Knaak tallied two hits, as well.
Meghan Burns scored a team-high three runs and went 3-for-4 with one RBI.
Fisher 12, Pitt-Bradford 2 (5 innings)
The Cardinals recorded another six runs in the bottom of the third inning en route to topping Pitt-Bradford. Balsano and Owens each recorded two-run doubles to lead the offense, as the Cardinals took a 10-0 lead.
Pitt-Bradford scored an unearned run in the fourth inning to get on the scoreboard.
Fisher strung together four singles and a walk to score
Christina Sakran and
Jazzi Chadwick as insurance runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Megan Hillard hit a solo home run in the top of the fifth to close out the Panthers' scoring.
Halie Schoff earned the win from the circle, improving to 3-1 on the year. The junior recorded four strikeouts while scattering eight hits and one walk.
Fisher continues its nonconference action against visiting Medaille College on Tuesday with the doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
