Saxon and Highlanders Compete at Houghton tri-meet
MEN'S RESULTS
HOUGHTON, NY – The Alfred University and Houghton College outdoor track and field teams competed Wednesday, April 8, at a tri-meet with Alfred State College, hosted by Houghton College. There were no team scores.
The weather was "somewhat" cooperative. Thunderstorms delayed the start for an hour and athletes and spectators braved the rains and chilly temperatures throughout the afternoon once action got underway.
The AU men placed first in eight individual events and one relay. Sophomore
Jeffrey Nunez (Wurtsboro, NY/Ellenville) was a double-winner for the Saxons, taking both the hammer (47.00 meters) and discus (35.66 meters).
Other winners for the AU men were: freshman
Seth Spicer (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post) in the 1,500-meter run (4:57.28); senior
Mykel Ferguson (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) in the 100-meter dash (12.02 seconds); freshman
Matt Roder (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park), in the 800-meter run (2:06.11); freshman
Mathew Finley in the triple jump (11.73 meters); freshman
Anders Presthus (Lansing, NY/Lansing) in the shot put (11.92 meters); and senior
Sean Locker (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post West) in the javelin (52.22 meters).
Brion, Ferguson, Spicer and junior
Gregory Matos (Bronx, NY/ELLIS Prep) won the 4X100-meter relay in 45.22 seconds.
Houghton's Marshall Brady was just .05 off qualifying in the 110 meter high hurdles, an event he won in 16.57. Josiah Evans won the high jump (5-08.75) and Daniel Becker took first in the long jump (18-02.25). One other notable performance was Jonathan Lewis with a second place result in the 400 in a time of 52.73.
