Ithaca Wins 4-3 in Eighth Inning

Ithaca College freshman Allie Colleran hit an RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the eighth to score junior Jenna Tambasco to give the Bomber's the 4-3 win over Stevens Institute of Technology in the first game of the Empire 8 Softball Tournament.
Ithaca will play the winner of Alfred/St. John Fisher at 4:30 this afternoon. Stevens will face the loser of Alfred/St. John Fisher at 2:30 pm in an elmination game.
Both teams threatened in their halves of the first without anything to show for it before the Ducks broke through in the second. With runners on second and third, freshman
Farryl Groder singled to score one, followed by a two-RBI single from junior
Sydney Spitz to put Stevens up 3-0.
The Bombers answered with two in the bottom of the second before knotting the game at three with another in the third. Freshman
Emily Bloom and senior
Nicole Ciricillo scored Ithaca's runs in the second inning on a wild pitch and throwing error. Junior
Casey Gavin scored the Bombers' third run on an RBI single from Bloom.
Both teams traded zeroes from there until Ithaca ended it in the eighth.
Tambasco found her way on with a base hit, and then moved into scoring position on a stolen base before Colleran singled to center.
Colleran went 3-for-5 in the game to lead the Bombers to 12 hits in the contest. Bloom tallied two hits, including a double, in three trips to the plate, while Ciricillo and Gavin each had one base hit.
Spitz led the Ducks offensively with two RBIs while freshman
Lauren Shirley added two hits and a walk.
Junior
Laura Quicker earned her 12th victory in the circle for Ithaca and tossed her 15th complete game. After a tough second inning that resulted in three runs on four hits, Quicker settled down and allowed just three hits for the rest of the game. She struck out four batters and walked three.
Kayla Berardi took the loss for Stevens, allowing 12 hits and four walks.
