Fisher Defeats Ithaca 6-2

In the final game of day one of the Empire 8 Softball Tournament fourth-seeded St. John Fisher College defeated second-seeded Ithaca College, 6-2.

Ithaca will now take on Alfred University at 11 am Saturday in an elminiation game with the winner advancing to face Fisher at 1pm in the championship game. Should Fisher lose on Saturday, the winner takes all championship game will be played on Sunday at 1pm. 
 
Fisher struck first as Emma Savas hit a hard groundball to shortstop to score Knaak.
 
The Cardinals added two more runs in the bottom of the second inning. Kate Disbrow got on base with a single to left center then rounded all the bases as Kristina Balsano hit her sixth career home run deep over the right field fence. Fisher held a 3-0 lead heading into the third inning.
 
Fisher kept on rolling in the bottom of the third inning as Lauren Owens singled and reached third when the right fielder failed to scoop the ball. Two outs later, Danielle Ventrone doubled to right field, scoring Owens. Fisher took the decisive 5-0 lead when Disbrow singled up the middle to score Ventrone.
 
The Bombers got on the board in the fourth inning after freshman Emily Bloom scored on a fielding error and a wild pitch, making the score 5-1.

Neither team would score in the fourth or fifth inning.

A double from Robichaud sparked Ithaca's offense in the top of the sixth.  Sophomore Gabbie Litz replaced Robichaud at second base as a pinch runner. Ciricillo singled with two outs to bring Litz across the plate for Ithaca to cut the deficit to 5-2.
 
Fisher added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning when Megan Burns brought in Katie Mazierski on a hard-hit ball to right field.

Ithaca was retired in order in the top of the seventh, to give the Cardinals the 6-2 win.
 
Lindsey Thayer scattered five hits, two runs (one earned) and two walks with 10 strikeouts in the full seven innings. The freshman improves to 20-7 on the year.

Ithaca junior pitcher Allison Macari started game two and was credited with the loss after giving up three earned runs on five hits. Macari recorded a strike out and a walk in 1.0 innings pitched. She is now 9-6 on the season. Laura Quicker pitched 5.0 innings for the Bombers, allowing two earned runs on five hits.
