The Empire 8 Athletic Conference has announced the
2015 Men’s Tennis All-Conference teams as voted on by the conference coaches. In addition, the Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Coach of the Year have been selected.
Stevens Institute of Technology junior
Matthew Heinrich was named the Empire 8 Player of the Year for the third straight season. He was 12-5 this spring from the first position, including an undefeated mark in conference play as he is currently ranked No. 2 in the country and No. 1 in the region. In doubles action, Heinrich and Ben Foran compiled a 19-4 overall record at the No. 1 flight. Heinrich has been selected to compete in the NCAA Individual Championships later this month for the second straight season.
Ithaca College freshman
Jack Melhorn was tabbed the Rookie of the Year as he recorded 16 wins at the No. 1 position for the Bombers. Seven of his wins came against Empire 8 opponents. In doubles action, Melhonr played with Wes Davis and the duo compiled a 14-8 record at No. 1, including a 7-1 conference record.
Stevens
Steve Gachko was named the Coach of the Year for the sixth consecutive season. Gachko guided the Ducks to their 41st straight Empire 8 regular season victory this spring en-route to their fifth straight undefeated conference record and a sixth consecutive conference championship. Stevens earned the automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament for their sixth straight appearance and eighth time overall.
