Gachko Named National Coach Of The Year
SKILLMAN, N.J. (May 20, 2015) – Stevens Institute of Technology head men's tennis coach
Steve Gachko was named
national coach of the year Wednesday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
The honor is the first of its kind for both Gachko and the program.
Gachko led the Ducks to a program record 19 wins this spring in one of the toughest schedules in the country that included 10 opponents ranked in ITA top-40. In conference, Gachko was named the coach of the year for the sixth straight season as the Ducks captured their sixth consecutive Empire 8 Conference championship.
Additionally, Gachko continued his success in the NCA Tournament by leading the Ducks to a second round win in what was the program's sixth straight appearance in the tournament.
Stevens racked-up several accomplishments individually as well under Gachko's tutelage including an ITA Northeast singles crown for junior
Matthew Heinrich in the fall to go along with a doubles crown for Heinrich and junior
Ben Foran.
Gachko entered the season as the Ducks all-time wins leader.
