Stevens Routs Neumann In ECAC Quarterfinals
HOBOKEN, N.J. (May 6, 2015) – Junior
Erika Wilcox scored five goals to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team past Neumann University in the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Region Quarterfinals on Wednesday.
The Ducks improve to 13-5 overall and will face Arcadia University on Saturday in the semifinals with a time to be announced tomorrow. The Knights end their campaign at 11-7.
Stevens scored early often, as they held a 7-0 advantage barely nine minutes in. Senior
Caitlyn Hughes scored 48 seconds in with Wilcox netting a pair and fresman
Julianna Ricci netting goals 1:03 apart. Sophomore
Kathleen Kalbian also had two goals during the opening spurt with sophomore
Jess Leiby scoring with 20:53 remaining. Emily Sanders broke the run, but Wilcox and Ricci tallied goals 56 seconds apart to put the home team back up eight. The teams traded goals over the final 11:37, with sophomore
Mary Beth Irwin scoring her first of the season and senior
Holly Good chipping in her second on a free position attempt.
The second half was the same, as the Ducks stormed to the nine markers of the period, led by a pair of both Hughes and sophomore
Caroline DeLuca, with Ricci and Kalbian each putting home a goal and Wilcox getting two more. Jordan Hopkins completed her hat trick with 3:08 remaining for the Knights, but sophomore
Laura Roberts capped off the evening with second of the game.
Kalbian, Hughes, and Ricci each had three goals while Hughes tallied three helpers. Sophomore
Mariel Haubrich recorded four assists, while senior
Amanda Ingersoll led the way with seven ground ball pickups.
Hopkins had three goals, eight shots and four ground balls to lead Neumann while Gabby Curry made six saves in between the pipes.
This is the second meeting between Stevens and Arcadia, with the Ducks taking round one 17-5 at the DeBaun Athletic Complex back on April 15.
