Ithaca Scores Season High 19 Runs in Win over Canton

UTICA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College baseball team cruised to a 19-8 victory over SUNY Canton at the Empire 8 Conference Tournament hosted by Utica on Thursday. The 19 runs scored is a season high for Ithaca, as are the 25 hits. Ithaca plays again tomorrow at 10 a.m. against an opponent still to be determined.
Canton jumped out to a 1-0 lead after the top of the first. Two runners moved into scoring position on a ground-rule double, and the run scored on a chopper to third base.

Ithaca took a 5-1 lead in its next at bat after senior
Christian Brown scored on a wild pitch to start the four-run rally. Brown reached on a two-base error and then advanced to third on a fly out. The lead increased to 3-1 on a single from Stanley that scored sophomore
Josh Savacool after he found his way into scoring position on a double. A double from sophomore
Trevor Thompson grew Ithaca's lead to 4-1 after Savacool scored, and then Thompson came around on a single up the middle from Pidgeon.
In the bottom of the third, the Bombers tacked on seven more runs on six hits to make the score 12-1. Ithaca scored four runs before an out was recorded.
Canton crept back to within a 12-4 difference after scoring one run in the fourth and two in the fifth.
Ithaca reestablished a double-digit lead at 15-4 in the fifth on three straight hits to start off the frame. Junior
Zach Cole led off with a triple and then Henchey singled. Brown stepped to the plate next and doubled off the left field wall. Henchey reached third and scored on a throwing error. The final run scored on a sacrifice fly from Thompson.
After the seventh inning, Ithaca led by 13 runs at 19-6. The Kangaroos got two runs back in the top of the eighth and one more in the ninth to account for the final score of 19-9.
Eight different Bombers collected at least two hits in the contest, highlighted by a 4-for-6 day from Cole, which included two triples. Brown also had four hits in four triples to the plate, while Savacool, Thompson and Henchey had three hits apiece.

Zach Dickstein earned the win in seven innings of work with four strikeouts. Freshman
Jim Sinopoli tossed the final two innings in relief.
In the No.3/4 matchup at Murnane Field this morning, St. John Fisher took down Utica, 6-1. St. John Fisher scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to blow the game open. Stevens and Houghton play later this afternoon.
