Alfred ranked 15th in latest Division III poll
ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University softball team, in the wake of last weekend's victory in the Empire 8 Conference championship tournament, has moved up three spots to 15
th in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) weekly Division III poll.
The Saxons (35-4), were ranked 18
th in last week's NFCA poll, which at that time was the highest an AU team had ever been ranked nationally. The team's previous high before this season was 25
th in 2010, the year AU made its first ever appearance in the NCAA Division III championship tournament.
NFCA Division III Poll
The Saxons went 4-1 in the E8 tournament, twice beating St. John Fisher College on Sunday to win the conference crown and the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III playoffs.
Alfred is hosting this weekend's NCAA Regional, Friday-Sunday (May 8-10). The Saxons are the second seed in and will open the four-team double-elimination regional tournament at 1 p.m. Friday against third-seeded Lebanon Valley. Following that game, at 3:30 p.m., top-seeded Rowan (36-6, ranked 12
th in this week's NFCA poll) plays fourth-seeded Penn State-Behrend.
The tournament winner advances to next weekend's Super Regional round, with eight winners of two-team best-of-three series will advance to the Division III College World Series May 21-26 in Salem, VA.
