Elmira Falls in ECAC Semifinals to Moravian
Owings Mills, MD -- Despite being dealt yet another round of adversity, the Elmira College men's tennis team put their best foot forward in the ECAC Men's Tennis Tournament Semifinals, fighting to a 5-0 defeat to the top-seeded Moravian College.
EC was forced to play today's match with five people after number one singles player
Keith Bujak '15 was unable to make the trip. That news not only put the Soaring Eagles down 2-0 before even taking to the Stevenson University Greenspring Tennis Courts this afternoon, but it also put the remaining Elmira players in a tough spot as it shifted every player up a spot in singles and altered the doubles lineup.
The new first doubles team of
Satchal Waters'16 and
Austin Mansell'16 hung tough with Moravian's first doubles team to start the match, but a couple breaks of serve put EC behind and the duo would eventually fall, 8-3.
Yaniv Kogan'18 and
Patrick Tracey'18, playing up from third doubles, would also fall by an 8-3 margin.
The Purple and Gold had their backs against the wall, but each player took the singles court looking to start a comeback. Unfortunately, since the tournament semifinal was being played to decision, the Greyhounds needed just one point to take down EC and they got that with a straight-set victory at third singles.
Elmira is not finished at the ECAC Men's Tennis Tournament as they will play in the third place match tomorrow morning against Stevenson University. EC's 2015 finale will start at 9:00 a.m. at the Greenspring Tennis Courts.
