Sportsman of the Year Team Announced

Moravian College head coach Kevin Edwards has been voted the Empire 8 Men's Golf Coach of the Year by the coaches in the league. This marks his first coaching honor in his six year career; five as head coach and one year as co-head coach.

Moravian placed second at the 2014-15 Empire 8 Conference Championship, tying its highest finish in the tournament from the 2010-11 season. The Greyhounds had a four-round score of 1,267, finishing two strokes ahead of The University of Scranton. The second place finish was a four-place improvement from sixth in 2013-14 and the 1,267 score was the second best showing for Moravian in the history of the E8 tournament. The Greyhounds best score came in 2011-12 with a mark of 1,253.

Edwards guided Tyler Smith to E8 Rookie of the Year honors, marking the first time a Moravian athlete has earned the recognition. Smith was the top freshman in the tournament, finishing in a tie for 10th place with a 72-hole total of 316 to also earn Senior Team All-Empire 8 honors. Edwards also coached junior Evan Dickinson to Second Team All-Empire 8 accolades. Dickinson finished in a tie for sixth among the 38 golfers to play all four rounds.

In addition to Edwards' honor, one member of each team was named that institution's representative on the 2014-15 Men's Golf Sportsman of the Year Team.  Empire 8 emphasizes that "Competing with Honor and Integrity" is an essential component of a student athlete's experience in conjunction with an institution's educational mission. These honorees have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportsmen.
