Tieman Selected to Coordinate Empire 8 Field Hockey Officials
The Empire 8 has hired Maggie Tieman as the first-ever Coordinator of Field Hockey Officials. The administrators from around the conference have made a concerted effort regarding officials over the past three years, as field hockey is now the sixth E8 sport to hire its own coordinator.
"The Empire 8 has a well deserved reputation for academic and athletic excellence,” said Tieman. “It is my honor to become the Field Hockey Coordinator of Officials. I am looking forward to working with school administration, Athletic Directors, and coaches to create an atmosphere of professional excellence and growth in officiating."
“It is an exciting time as we hire Maggie to lead the way and enhance our pool of field hockey officials,” Empire 8 Commissioner Chuck Mitrano said. “She has a tremendous skill set that will greatly benefit our institutions, officials, and the game of field hockey in our region.”
Tieman has been a Wellness teacher and the varsity Field Hockey Coach at Lewis S. Mills High School since 2001. In 2014 she was named the Connecticut Field Hockey Coach of the Year and she guided her team to the Class S State Championship in 2006 and 2014. She also coached softball from 2006-2010 and assisted with basketball from 2001-2004.
Outside of Lewis S. Mills High School, Tieman has been the director of Strokes Field Hockey Camp in Burlington, CT (2001-15), served as Connecticut Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (CTAHPERD) Region VI Professional Development Director (2002-11) and been a part of the Connecticut Association of Schools and Interscholastic Athletic Conference CIAC Sportsmanship Committee (2009-2014).
Tieman will draw upon her own officiating experiences to help guide her in this position as she has an extensive background as an NCAA Women’s Basketball Official. She has six years of game experience for some of the most well known Division I conference including the ACC, Big East, American, Atlantic-10, MAAC, Colonial, American East, Patriot League, IVY and Northeast.
