Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis rising senior
Matthew Heinrich was named a
First Team Academic All-American Tuesday by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Heinrich won the award as part of the at-large category, besting student-athletes from more than eight different sports from Division III institutions across the country. The honor is the second in as many years for Heinrich, and the first as a member of the first team.
Heinrich served as the Ducks singles and doubles ace during the 2014-15 season, compiling 25 wins combined between the two. For his efforts, Heinrich was named the Empire 8 Conference Player of the Year and championship most valuable player for the third consecutive year.
The Tennessee native previously made program history in the fall by capturing both singles and doubles Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northeast championships, before capping his season with a win in the NCAA Individual Championship for the second straight year.
For the ITA and NCAA success, Heinrich was named an All-American by both.
