On Tuesday evening, the St. John Fisher College football program sent several members of its team to work with some of the area's youth football programs.

Nearly 20 members of the Fisher football team traveled to Spencerport to work with young athletes of the Junior Rangers flag football teams, with ages ranging from 5 to 7 years old.

The Fisher players participated in some fun activities with the kids, and helped direct drills as well.

"This is a great opportunity for our athletes to get out and interact with the young athletes of our community" says head coach Paul Vosburgh, now in his 25th year at Fisher. "The kids really look up to our players, and the student-athletes realize how important they are in their positions as role models to young kids, not just on the playing field, but within the community and on our campus."

Fisher (0-1), currently receiving votes in the D3football.com national poll, will host SUNY Cortland at 1 p.m.  Sept.  19, as part of its Alumni Weekend. The following weekend, the Cardinals host The College at Brockport in Courage Bowl XI.

The Courage Bowl helps to raise money for Camp Good Days and Special Times.  As part of the game, Camp Good Days selects boys, all of whom are campers in Camp Good Days' programs and are dealing with cancer, to serve as Honorary Coaches, with each team. The Honorary Coaches attend a practice with their team; meet their team for the pre-game meal; are in the locker room with their team; lead their team on to the field; are at midfield for the coin toss; and coach from the sidelines during the game.

Camp Good Days also selects girls, also campers who are dealing with cancer, to serve as Honorary Cheerleaders, with each squad. The Honorary Cheerleaders attend practice with the squad; meet the squad for pre-game preparation and cheer with the squad during the game.
