SJFC Men's Golf Wins Flower City Preview
In a star-studded field that featured five of the nation's top 10 programs, the St. John Fisher College men's golf program won the Flower City Preview on Sunday morning.
The Cardinals, ranked 13th in the national coaches preseason poll, shot a 301 on Saturday and posted a 303 on Sunday to finish with a two-day total of 604, beating Methodist University, the defending national champions and top-ranked team in the country, by four strokes.
The tournament was played at Midvale Country Club and featured 18 of the nation's top programs. St. John Fisher College will host the NCAA Division III Championship in May of 2016 at Midvale and Mendon Golf Club.
Senior
Corey Haas was the tournament's medalist, shooting a 72 on Saturday and a 73 on Sunday, finishing at +1, the lowest score out of the 90 golfers.
Teammate
Karl Deuble placed seventh overall, shooting 73 on Sunday after a 77 on Saturday.
Ian Campbell placed 33rd overall, carding a 73 on Saturday and an 82 on Sunday.
Blake Reifsnyder shot a pair of 79s, while Chris Thompson shaved 12 strokes off of Saturday's round, delivering a 78 on Sunday.
"This is probably the biggest win ever for our program," says head coach
Bob Simms, now in his 16th season at the College. "The weather wasn't ideal, but we grinded it out and played well enough to win."
