The fall season is in full gear with all sports into the league portion of their schedules, which means the competition is at an all time high level.  Those earning weekly honors for the week of Sept. 14-20 include...

Football Offensive Player – Brockport
Dan Andrews, Junior, RB – Rochester, NY/Franklin
 
Dan Andrews had a solid rushing day, leading the Golden Eagles to a 35-14 league-win over Hartwick College. The junior picked up 225-yards on the ground, with an average of eight-yards a carry. He scored three touchdowns on the day, including a 46-yard long run that ended in the end zone. Andrews also picked up one pass for additional 14-yards.
 
Football Defensive Player – Ithaca
Dan Loizos, Sophomore, LB – Oakhurst, NJ/Ocean Township
 
Dan Loizos and Ithaca defensive unit held No. 16 Hobart to 159 yards of total offense as the Bombers handed the Statesmen their first regular season loss since Nov. 2011.  Loizos recorded nine tackles (seven solo) while recovering a pair of fumbles and forcing a fumble. 
 
Football Special Teams Player – Utica
Thomas Woodburn, Senior, K/P – West Islip, NY/West Islip
 
Thomas Woodburn broke the Utica school-record with 12 points scored by kicking in the Pioneers 38-14 win over Morrisville on Saturday. He drilled three field goals (20, 19, 30 yards) and added three extra points as the Pioneers cruised to the 24 point victory.
 
Field Hockey Offensive Player – Ithaca
Collen Keegan Twombly, Junior, Forward – Kingston, NY/Kingston
 
Junior Colleen Keegan-Twombly scored Ithaca's game-winner in a 1-0 upset victory over No. 15 Rochester on Sept. 16. It was Keegan-Twombly's second game-winning goal of the season.
 
Field Hockey Defensive Player –  Washington & Jefferson
Morgan Brozena, Senior, Goalie – Telford, PA/Souderton
 
Morgan Brozena had a 2-1 week in goal for the Presidents, totaling 18 saves. She earned wins at Wooster and against Nazareth before dropping a 3-0 decision against nationally ranked Kenyon. At Wooster, she made three saves, before posting a shutout with six saves against Nazareth for her tenth career blanking.  Brozena ended the week with nine saves against Kenyon.
 
Men’s Cross Country Runner – St. John Fisher
Charles Collins, Freshman – Geneva, NY/Geneva
 
Charles Collins finished in first place overall at the Highlander Invitational. He posted a time of 26:25 in the 8K race and led Fisher to a first place finish as a team at the event.
 
Women’s Cross Country Runner – St. John Fisher
Sammy VanGee, Junior – Marion, NY/Marion
 
Sammy Van Gee finished in first place overall at the Highlander Invitational as she finished with a time of 19:29 in the 5K race and helped lead Fisher to a first place finish as a team at the competition.
 
Men’s Golf Athlete – Moravian
Jim Maru, Senior – Allentown, PA/Lehigh Valley Academy
 
Jim Maru shot back-to-back two-over par rounds of 74 to open the 2015-16 Empire 8 Championship at Timber Banks Country Club. Maru leads the tournament by two strokes. Earlier in the week, he fired a 79 to tie for 18th out of 89 golfers in the Moravian Fall Invitational at Woodstone Country Club.

Men’s Soccer Offensive Player – Alfred
Oumar Soumahoro, Junior, Forward – New York, NY/Martin Luther King
 
Oumar Soumahoro netted five goals in two games last week as Alfred went 1-0-1. He netted two goals in a 4-4 non-league tie against visiting Oswego on Wednesday, then scored a hat-trick in a 4-0 win at St. John Fisher College on Saturday. Soumahoro's goals against Fisher were the first three of the game, scoring in the 25th, 29th, and 50th minutes. 
 
Men’s Soccer Defensive Player –  Elmira
Austin Mansell, Senior, Goalie – West Lebanon, NH/Lebanon
 
Austin Mansell backstopped the Soaring Eagles to a 1-1 double-overtime tie against the Stevens Institute of Technology. He recorded seven saves – tying his season-best – while registering a season-high .875 save percentage. The EC goalkeeper made five of his seven saves in the second half, including his final save with only 21 ticks left on the clock in the second overtime period to preserve the tie. Making the tie more notable was the fact that the Purple and Gold played the final 22:49 with only 10 men on the field. The tie marked the first time Stevens has not opened E8 play with a victory.
 
Women’s Soccer Offensive Player – St. John Fisher
Carly Finn, Junior, Forward – Glenville, NY/Burnt Hills
 
Carly Finn helped lead Fisher to a 3-1 victory of the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford on Sunday after scoring two first half goals in the contest.  Finn scored first for the Cardinals in the 23rd minute as she finished a shot far post and struck again in the 29th minute to give Fisher a 2-0 lead.
 
Women’s’ Soccer Defensive –  Stevens
Lindsey Mahnken, Sophomore, Goalie – Bayville, NJ/M.A.T.E.S.
 
Lindsey Mahnken made five saves en route to a 2-0 shutout victory over Houghton on Sunday. It was the first shutout of the season for Mahnken and the seventh of her career.
 
Women’s Tennis Player – Elmira
Ayaka Yoshino, Senior – Yokohama, Japan/Yokohama Futaba
 
Ayaka Yoshino went 4-2 last week playing at the top spots in both single and doubles. All four of her wins came in Empire 8 Conference play, as she earned victories against St. John Fisher and Utica. In the win over Fisher, Yoshino picked up her 32nd career singles victory, as she moved into sole possession of first place in Elmira College record books. Additionally, in the four matches she won, Yoshino won 34-of-37 games played.
 
Women’s Volleyball Player –  Utica
Lora Allen, Senior, Setter – Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville
 
Senior Lora Allen broke the Utica College career assist record over the weekend. She now has 1,559 assists in three years at Utica. Allen totaled 94 assists in four matches last week. Her best performance came when she tied her season-high 31 sets in a 3-2 loss to D’Youville on Friday. She also totaled 39 digs, including a season-best 18 against D’Youville.
 
Women’s Volleyball Rookie –  Ithaca
Hailey Adler, Freshman, OH – West Chester, PA/Henderson
 
Freshman Hailey Adler compiled 49 digs, 46.5 points, 34 kills, 11 aces, five assists and three blocks in a 5-0 week for Ithaca. In a five-set win over New Paltz, Adler notched a double-double with 17 digs and 12 kills (.333%) to go along with three aces. she also had 13 digs and three blocks in a win over Elmira.
