Nazareth grad Katie Mutter wins Rochester Marathon
ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Nazareth graduate Katie Mutter, who once competed for the Golden Flyers' track and cross country teams, reaped her greatest running accomplishment last Sunday as she led from start to finish and won the Rochester Marathon.
A Rochester native, Mutter, 25, covered the 26.2-mile terrain in 3 hours, three minutes and six seconds, more than 18 minutes faster than her closest female pursuer. She averaged just under seven minutes per mile.
Mutter graduated from Nazareth in 2012 with a degree in health science. She moved to Syracuse and now works as a dietetic intern. She ran two seasons each of cross country and track, specializing in middle distance races. Before that, she played scholastic soccer at Aquinas Institute.
"She progressed a lot in her two years here," said Nazareth cross country coach
James Goss. "She is the type of person who can hold a six-minute mile pace for a long time. She's really found her niche as a long-distance runner."
