Six Corvias ECAC Athletes of the Week
Six Empire 8 Athletic Conference student-athletes have been honored as the Corvias Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Athletes of the Week for their performances during the week of Sept. 14-20, 2015.
Football – North
Special Teams Player of the Week
Thomas Woodburn – Utica College, Sr., Kicker/Punter, West Islip, N.Y.
Woodburn broke the Utica school-record with 12 points scored by kicking in the Pioneers 38-14 win over Morrisville on Saturday. He drilled three field goals (20, 19, 30 yards) and added three extra points as the Pioneers cruised to the 24-point victory.
Men’s Soccer – Upstate
Offensive Player of the Week
Oumar Soumahoro – Alfred University, Jr., Forward, New York, N.Y.
Soumahoro netted five goals in two games last week as Alfred went 1-0-1. He netted two goals in a 4-4 non-league tie against visiting SUNY Oswego on Wednesday. Soumahoro followed that up with a natural hat-trick in a 4-0 win at St. John Fisher College on Saturday, with his strikes coming in the 25th, 29th, and 50th minutes.
Men’s Cross Country – Upstate
Rookie of the Week
Charles Collins – Saint John Fisher College, Fr., Geneva, N.Y.
Collins finished in first place overall at the Highlander Invitational. He posted a time of 26:25 in the 8K race and led Fisher to a first place finish as a team at the event.
Women’s Cross Country – Upstate
Runner of the Week
Sammy Van Gee – Saint John Fisher College, Jr., Marion, N.Y.
Van Gee finished in first place at the Highlander Invitational as she finished with a time of 19:29 in the 5K race and helped lead Fisher to a first place finish as a team at the competition.
Women’s Volleyball - Metro/Upstate Region
Player of the Week
Lora Allen – Utica College, Sr., Setter, Dolgeville, N.Y.
Allen broke the Utica College career assist record over the weekend. She now has 1,559 assists in three years at Utica. Allen totaled 94 assists in four matches last week. Her best performance came when she tied her season-high 31 sets in a 3-2 loss to D’Youville on Friday. She also totaled 39 digs, including a season-best 18 against D’Youville.
Field Hockey – Mid Atlantic
Defensive Player of the Week
Morgan Brozena – Washington & Jefferson College, Sr., Goalkeeper, Telford, Pa.
Brozena had a 2-1 week in goal for the Presidents, totaling 18 saves. She earned wins at Wooster and against Nazareth before dropping a 3-0 decision against nationally ranked Kenyon. At Wooster, she made three saves, before posting a shutout with six saves against Nazareth for her tenth career blanking. Brozena ended the week with nine saves against Kenyon.
