Ithaca College Director of Athletics and Recreational Sports Susan Bassett '79 is pleased to announce the hiring of Karrie Moore as the 11th head women's lacrosse coach in the program's illustrious history.

A national search was conducted to find the next head coach of an Ithaca program that has won 10 or more games in each of the last six seasons.

The Bombers identified Moore, who served as an assistant coach with Cornell University for the last seven seasons, as the best coaching candidate.

Moore, a 2006 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, was a standout goalkeeper during her playing days at Penn. While at Cornell, she focused primarily on the defense and goalies during an assistant coaching tenure that saw the Big Red post a 57-52 record while qualifying for the Ivy League tournament each of the last four seasons.

"Karrie Moore is the best possible choice as the next leader for the Ithaca College women's lacrosse program. I am thrilled to welcome Karrie to the IC community and our athletics family," said Bassett. "Karrie is committed to excellence both academically and athletically, and she has a keen sense of the importance of creating a quality student experience as part of a comprehensive education here at IC."

Moore, who also served as an assistant coach at Colgate, has a strong familiarity with the Ithaca area and is confident she can add to the already strong prestige of the Ithaca program.

"I am honored to serve as the next head women's lacrosse coach at Ithaca College.  This program has a tremendous tradition and I look forward to working with the team and alumnae to build on prior successes while aiming for even higher achievements," said Moore, a four-year letter winner at Penn who graduated with a bachelor's degree in psychology.

"I want to thank Susan Bassett, Michelle Manning and the entire search committee for being outstanding ambassadors for both the program and the institution. I am proud to become part of the Bombers' family.

Moore will take over an Ithaca program that has been to the NCAA tournament five times since the 2001 season, and has advanced into the Empire 8 championship eight times since 2004. During the 2014 season, Ithaca posted an 11-8 record (6-2 in the Empire 8) and advanced into the conference championship for the fourth straight year.

Under Moore's tutelage in 2015, Cornell's goalies helped lead a unit that surrendered just 8.88 goals per game, the fourth-lowest goals-against average in the conference.

Moore had similar responsibilities in her two seasons coaching with Colgate, helping guide the Raiders to a Patriot League title and a spot in the 2008 NCAA tournament. She assisted in the development of 10 All-Patriot League players in her two seasons, with Colgate advancing to the Patriot League tournament both years.

"Karrie has played and coached lacrosse at a high level while working with some of the best coaches in the country throughout her lacrosse life," Bassett said. "Best of all, she loves what we love: Ithaca College, the joy of competition, and helping student-athletes realize their individual potential while working together to achieve high goals as a team."

The highlight of her playing career came during her senior season, when Moore was the Quakers' starting goalkeeper. She registered an 8-3 record and finished the 2006 campaign among the Ancient Eight leaders in goals-against average (7.23) and save percentage (.478) as Penn finished the campaign 10-6 overall.
