The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) annually recognizes and thanks those who chronicle the sport's personalities, problems, games and development. On Thursday of the NSCAA Convention, soccer media gathered for an appreciation breakfast and for the announcement of the 21st Annual Media Contest winners.

Utica College alum Jeff Kassouf from NBCSports.com won the deadline/game story with "Predicting Carli Lloyd." In it, he describes the relationship between the Women's World Cup hero and her personal trainer.

The NSCAA Annual Media Contest recognizes writers and reporters with work published in a newspaper (daily or weekly), magazine, website, television broadcast, or blog covering soccer. Freelance writers published in newspapers, magazines or as special features can also submit published articles.

Stories and features published from Dec. 1, 2014 through Nov. 30, 2015 were eligible to enter into this year's contest.

Kassouf, who was a defenseman from New Paltz, NY, finished his senior year at Utica College as an NSCAA Scholar All-East Region selection.  He helped lead the UC defense to six shut-outs while allowing just 20 goals the entire season in his senior campaign.  Over the course of four seasons he played in 54 games, producing two goals and 16 shots from the defensive end.

Kassouf is a producer for NBCSports.com. He has worked for NBC Sports and Olympics since January 2012, working on the last two Olympics for NBC. Kassouf is also the managing editor of The Equalizer (equalizersoccer.com), North America's top women's soccer news site. He founded the site in 2009. In 2011 he authored "Girls Play to Win," part of a series of informational sports children's books.

The Equalizer was founded in 2009 with a goal of bringing first-class media coverage to women's soccer. Jeff is also a freelance women's soccer writer and he has several pieces which have appeared in Sports Illustrated.
