Men's XC Fares Well at Hamilton Invite

The Utica College, Ithaca College and Hartwick College men's cross country teams had impressive showing sat the Hamilton Invitational as they finished fourth, sixth and ninth, respectively, out of 14 teams on Saturday.
 
UC had two top-10 finishers in freshman Mitchell Marlow (sixth) and senior Erik Winberg (tenth).  Marlow's time of 26:09.8 is a new personal best and the sixth fastest time in program history for an 8k course.    Winberg's time of 26:24.4 was his fastest time this year.
 
Sophomores Jon Kulpa and Dan Block finished 26th and 27th overall with times of 27:04.2 and 27:07.2, respectively.  Junior Brian Attas  took home 30th out of 154 as he clocked a time of 27:15.5 and sophomore Nick Ashton rounded out the top five finishers for UC with a time of 27:28.0 and an average mile of 5:32.
 
The Ithaca College men's cross country team finished sixth overall out of 14 schools at the Hamilton College Invitational on Saturday in Clinton, N.Y. Ithaca totaled 171 points on the 8K course which was held at Hamilton's campus golf course.

The host Continentals won the meet with 43 points, as three of their runners finished within the top eight and their two others were 11th and 17th overall.

Leading the Bombers on Saturday was junior Eric Melcer, who placed 25th overall in a time of 27:01.3. Melcer improved his personal best time by 1:07.

Next to finish for Ithaca was freshman Garrett Bampos in 33rd with a time of 27:22.4, which was 1:45 faster than his previous best.

Sophomore John Blake clocked a time of 27:26.5 to take 34th in the race that consisted of 154 runners. Blake's time was 54 seconds better than any prior 8K race.

Fellow sophomore Owen Memelo completed the course in 27:48.0 to place 39th overall in his first 8K race of the season.

Freshman Jacob Lange finished in 27:57.0, which was 40th overall at the Invite. Lange improved his best 8K mark by 1:57.

Chris Shaw would place 75th for the Hartwick men out of 154 competitors. He ran the race in 28:56.6.
           
Tim Mahony and Ethan Pine finished within five ticks of one another. Mahony ended the race 81st in a time of 29:16.2. Pine was 82ndin 29:16.2.
           
Joseph Ziegler III ran the race in 30:16.4 for the Hawks.
