Empire 8 crowned a tennis champion over the weekend and other fall championships are drawing closer as E8 student-athletes continued to produce stellar performances during the week of Oct. 10-16. Those earning weekly honors include....

Football Offensive Player – Alfred
Maleke Fuentes, Junior, RB – Olean, NY/Olean
 
Maleke Fuentes ran for 155 yards on just 15 carries (long run of 65 yards) for a per carry average of 10.3 yards in Alfred's 41-28 win over Cortland. Fuentes ran for a touchdown as Alfred improved to 6-0 on the year (4-0 E8).
 
Football Defensive Player – Utica
Juwan Wilson, Senior, LB – South Ozone Park, NY/Holy Cross
 
Juwan Wilson led the Pioneer defense with nine tackles, 1.5 sacks and one interception. Wilson is now just the second player in program-history to total over 300 career tackles. Wilson and the UC defense held the previously unbeaten and nationally-ranked No. 13 Cardinals to just six points on the afternoon. Fisher headed into the contest averaging 39.5 points per game.
 
Football Special Teams Player – Brockport
Brett Renzi, Junior, Kicker – Spencerport, NY/Spencerport
 
Kicker Brett Renzi contributed 10 points in The College at Brockport football team’s 42-28 win over Ithaca College. Renzi was a perfect four-for-four on extra point attempts and added two field goals in the first half from 29 and 31-yards out.
 
Field Hockey Offensive Player – W&J
Amanda Steffey, Senior, Forward – Irwin, PA/Penn-Trafford
 
Amanda Steffey became W&J's all-time career assists leader when she recorded three helpers against Ohio Wesleyan on Tuesday night ... She also scored the game-winning goal in that match to finish with five points in a 5-1 W&J win ... In Sunday's nonconference game against Concordia Wisconsin, Steffey added two more helpers to finish with five assists and a goal for seven points on the week
 
 
Field Hockey Defensive Player –  St. John Fisher
Ashley Maynard, Sophomore, Goalie – Rochester, NY/Hilton
 
Ashley Maynard anchored a defense that held both of its opponents scoreless this week, giving the Cardinals a 2-0 record and increasing their win streak to 11 straight. In the week’s first game, she stopped all eight of the Union College Stateswomen shots. She would later be relieved of her goalie duties with 11 minutes to go as the Cardinals were up 4-0. She then outdid that performance with a complete shut out against conference-rival Washington and Jefferson College. Maynard played all 91:41 of the double-overtime win, turning aside 10 shots, half of which were recorded in the overtime periods.
 
Men’s Cross Country Runner – Ithaca
Sean Phillips, Senior – East Aurora, NY/East Aurora
 
Sean Phillips had a solid showing at the Rowan University Border Clash in Glassboro, NJ. The senior paced the Bombers on the 7.8K course with an 11th overall finish with a time of 23:48.1, which was just under three seconds shy of a top 10 placement.
 
Women’s Cross Country Runner – Stevens
Amy Regan, Senior – Green Brook, NJ/Watchung Hills Regional
 
Senior Amy Regan placed first to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology women's cross country team to a 10th place team finish at the Rowan Inter-Regional Border Battle. Regan set a personal-best with a new course record time of 20:17.6.
 
Men’s Golf Athlete – St. John Fisher
Jeff Palmerino, Senior – Glenmont, NY/Bethlehem
 
Jeff Palmerino clinched Fisher's top spot at the DIII Golfweek Fall Invitational, turning in a score of +11 to put him in a tie for 40th. The senior finished up round three with a 75, his second best score of the three days.
 
Men’s Soccer Offensive Player – Nazareth
Christopher Rowland, Junior, Midfield – Watertown, NY/Immaculate Heart Central
 
Christopher Rowland tied the school record with three assists against Alfred State on Tuesday. Nazareth won the game 3-0. Nazareth fell to Stevens 1-0 on Saturday.
 
Men’s Soccer Defensive Player –  Utica
Matthew Milograno, Junior, Goalie – Marcy, NY/Whitesboro
 
Junior goalie Matthew Milograno stopped a career-high 19 shots, including a key penalty kick shot with just under 18 minutes to go in regulation, to help preserve a 3-3 tie against Houghton on Saturday night. He added six saves in the Pioneers loss against Hamilton on Wednesday.
 
Women’s Soccer Offensive Player – Stevens
Raba Nassif, Senior, Midfield – Northvale, NJ/Northern Valley Old Tappan
 
Raba Nassif had a monster two games, scoring six goals while adding two assists. Against Farmingdale on Wednesday, the senior tallied a pair of goals and an assist, including the game-winner, in a victory. In E8 action Saturday, Nassif scored four goals on Senior Day, while adding an assist on nine shots propelling Stevens to a 8-0 win over Utica.
 
Women’s’ Soccer Defensive –  Elmira
Amanda Banner, Goalie – Mullica Township, NJ/Cedar Creek
 
Amanda Banner made a career-high 13 saves in Elmira's lone game of the week against Houghton. Six of her 13 stops came in the first half of the double-overtime game, while five others came in second stanza, including a save on a Highlander penalty kick in the 62nd minute.
 
Women’s Tennis Player – Ithaca
Kathryn Shaffer, Sophomore – Reading, MA/Reading Memorial
 
Kathryn Shaffer was the only Bomber to have all four of her matches finish in victory over the weekend in helping Ithaca lift its 12th consecutive Empire 8 title. The IC sophomore went 2-0 in both singles and doubles play. On Friday, she paired with teammate, Maddie Overholt, for a dominant 8-0 win in third-flight doubles. She scored the team's penultimate point with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph in fifth-flight singles. On Saturday, she paired with Overholt to turn the tide in the match with a thrilling comeback to take the third-flight doubles matchup in a tie-breaker, 9-8. The IC duo was trailing 7-5, before staking the comeback. Shaffer went on to clinch the match for the Bombers with a 6-4, 6-2 win in the fifth flight.
 
Women’s Volleyball Player –  Alfred
Aubrey Totsline, Junior, Setter – Fairport, NY/Fairport
 
Aubrey Totsline accumulated her fifth, sixth and seventh 40 or more set assists performance of the season as she helped the Saxons go 3-2 on the week, including the Saxons third Empire 8 win which is the first time in Alfred history since joining the Empire 8 that they have won three. Totsline began the week with 43 set assists against Elmira as she added four aces, seven digs and one kill. Saturday’s matches against Maine-Fort Kent and Pitt-Bradford were Totsline’s sixth and seventh 40 or more assists matches with a new career-best of 49 against Fort Kent and another 40 against Pitt-Bradford. For the week, she amassed 180 assists (9.00 per set), 12 aces, 20 digs and four kills.
 
Women’s Volleyball Rookie –  Ithaca
Caitlyn Floyd, Freshman, Setter – Mahwah, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy
 
Caitlyn Floyd had another solid week in her jack-of-all-trades role for the Bombers. She registered 51 assists, 11 kills, and 10 digs in helping IC win all three of its matches at the 2016 Wellesley Invitational.
