The Empire 8 Conference is full of talented student-athletes and the E8 Spotlight is one way for fans to get to know them.

Jean McCarthy (Warwick, NY/Warwick) is a senior tennis player at Nazareth College and majors in Music Education.

Why did you choose to attend Nazareth? Nazareth allowed me to major in Music and be involved with athletics.

What has been the greatest part of your experience as a college athlete?  My greatest experience has been improving every year and competing at first singles three years in a row.

Who has been the most influential person during your athletic career? My former doubles partner Ami Petosa. She had a herniated disc in her back but she was such a strong player with an inspiring personality.

Where do you see yourself in five years? I would like to be a music teacher in Rochester or New York City and hopefully coaching tennis at a high school or teaching private lessons.

What do you like most about competing in the E8? Playing teams that are really equal in skill level to our team. Especially this season, I have been playing a lot of players that are at my same level which makes it really competitive and a lot of fun.

What do you do in your spare time? Hang out with my roommates.

Top 3 things on your bucket list? Go to Australia; Kiss the blarney stone in Ireland; Go to California.

What is something most people don’t know about you? I like to take time for myself.
