ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's tennis team earned its second Empire 8 Conference win of the season Saturday, defeating visiting Elmira, 6-3.
 
AU (3-8 overall, 2-4 E8) won four of six singles matches and two of three in doubles play.
 
In singles action, the Saxons got wins from junior Sarah Grace (Rochester, NY/Penfield),  6-1, 6-1 in third singles; sophomore Beryl Torthe (Pretoria, South Africa/St. Mary's Diocesan-South Africa), 6-1, 6-1 in fourth singles; sophomore Inda Gillett (South Kortright, NY/Delaware Academy), 6-2, 6-1 in fifth singles; and sophomore Nurila Kambar (Almaty, Kazakhstan/Republic Physics and Mathematics School),  6-0, 6-2 in sixth singles.
 
Gillett and Grace won second doubles, 8-1, while freshmen Miranda Sakala (Olean, NY/Olean) and sophomore Rachel Pera (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West) teamed to take third doubles, 8-3.
 
AU is in action next on Monday, Oct. 3, at 4 p.m. at home against Brockport.
