Blaszak Records 1,000th Kill
UTICA, NY- Senior
Brandi Blaszak (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) became the first player in UC history to record 1,000 kills in a career as the Pioneers topped visiting SUNY Cobleskill 3-0 in non-conference action Wednesday evening.
Blaszak finished with a season-high 13 kills on the evening and she also added two blocks to pace the Pioneers. Sophomore
Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) totaled seven kills and chipped in with a team-best 14 assists and three service aces.
Despite falling down 6-0 in the first set, Utica rebounded to take an 11-9 lead. After back-and-fourth play, the Pioneers were able to gain control of the set and cruise to a 25-20 win. UC kept up the pressure in the second set, earning a 25-16 victory, before downing the Fighting Tigers 25-22 in the third set to come away with the 3-0 win for the match.
Sophomore
Nicole Herringshaw (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) recorded six kills and two blocks, while junior
Andreana Kroup (Gloversville, NY/Gloversville) led the team with nine digs, followed closely by Voss (eight) and
Marissa Faroni (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) (six).
