Elmira & Hartwick Post Strong Finish at the CCOC Championships
GENEVA, N.Y. -- Elmira and Hartwick cross country recorded solid showings at the Cross Country Only Conference Championships on Saturday in Geneva, NY.
Freshman
Sarah Matys ran her race in a final time of 26:28.3 which was good enough for 27
th place and the Hawks' top finish. One-hundred and thirty-one competitors would take part in the women's 6K.
Junior
Elsa Bock and sophomore
Abby Cerne placed 30
th and 31
st, respectively, for the Hawks. Bock ended the race in 26:51.8. She edged out Cerne by less than four seconds. Cerne crossed the tape in 26:55.6.
Freshman
Tylisha Gourdine placed 44
th in 27:40.1.
Hannah Lundgren '18 finished with the best time for the Elmira. Lundgren finished the six-kilometer race with a time of 27:15.10. The Horseheads, New York, native posted her season-best time in the 6k distance, shaving 14 seconds off of her finish from the Mike Woods Invitational two weeks ago. Saturday's race was the second straight of the season that Lundgren paced the Purple and Gold.
Sensational freshman
Caitlin Malanowski '20 was the next Soaring Eagle to finish the race. Malanowski finished the course in 28:02.90, in her second career race at the six-kilometer distance.
Fourth-year Soaring Eagle
Abby Tourison '17 posted her second-best time of her career in a 6k, with a finish of 28:27.80. Tourison is thriving at the six-kilometer distance this year, with her top two finishes at the distance coming in back to back races.
Rounding out the Purple and Gold scoring five was
Hannah Gaston '17 and
Melody Ribeiro '17. Ribeiro's time of 29:59.10 is only 20 seconds off of her career-best time from last week's Mike Woods Invitational.
