Opening Day of ITA Northeast Regionals

GENEVA, N.Y. – Ithaca College freshman Minos Stavrakas and sophomore Michael Gardiner
and ?Stevens Institute of Technology Danny Polk, Michael Feldman, Kyle Henry and Kyle Cenderelli all advanced to day two of the ITA Northeast Regional.
The three-day event is taking place on the campus of Hobart College in Geneva, N.Y.
Stavrakas opened the day with a dominant 8-1 pro-set victory over Satchel Fisher of Bard College in the Round of 64 of the singles draw. He followed up that performance with another strong showing in the Round of 32, dispatching Juan Felipe Laso of Vassar College in straight sets 6-4, 6-4. He will face seeded opponent Jack August of The College of New Jersey in the Round of 16 tomorrow.
IC will also have one doubles tandem in action tomorrow, as Stavrakas teamed with sophomore,
Michael Gardiner, for a pair of wins in the 32-team doubles draw.
The Bombers top doubles grouping opened the afternoon session, which was moved indoors due to inclement weather, with an 8-6 win over Jason Keye and Travis Leaf of Skidmore. The victory set up a difficult Round of 16 matchup against the fourth-seeded tandem of Mitchel Sanders and Matt Puig of The College of New Jersey. IC's dynamic duo scored the upset over TCNJ's talented tandem with an 8-6 victory to advance to Sunday's quarterfinal round. They will face the eighth-seeded team of Zack Ebenfeld and Sebastian Castillo-Sanchez of RPI.
Stevens senior
Michael Feldman and junior
Danny Polk led the Ducks at singles with each going 2-0. The fourth-seeded Polk opened his day with an 8-0 win over Jordan Kendall of the Merchant Marine Academy, followed by a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Rensselaer's Stephen Baxter.
Feldman won his first matchup 8-2 over Sahaj Somani of Rochester, before taking the 6-1, 6-3 victory from Winston Yu of Rensselaer.
Junior
David Schulz won his opening match 8-0 over Elmira's Patrick Tracey, but fell in round two, 6-2, 6-1. Senior
Antonio Perich, sophomore
Kyle Cenderelli, and junior
William Persson each fell in the first round.
Polk/Feldman continued their success at doubles with an 8-2 win in the first round, followed by an 8-4 win in the second over the Skidmore duo of Kai Yuen Leung and John Wynee. Cenderelli/junior
Kyle Henry also advanced to tomorrow with an 8-5 in the first round, followed by an 8-3 victory in the second.
Ithaca had three other men in singles and one doubles team in action on Saturday.
In singles play,
Liam Spiegel fell to Thomas Wright of TCNJ 8-2. Nathan Wolf was swept 8-0 by Umberto Setter of New York University. Gardiner also fell 8-1 to the second-seeded singles netter, Nick Litsky of Vassar College. In doubles play, Spiegel combined with
Lorenzo Viguie-Ramos, but fell to Rochester's Andrew Nunno and Sam Leeman 8-0.
Action is set to resume with Round of 16 play in singles and quarterfinal action in doubles beginning at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow morning.
