Jones Tabbed ECAC Golfer of the Month for September
Ithaca College junior Indiana Jones has been tabbed the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Corvias Women's Golfers of the Month for September. The announcement capped an excellent weekend in which Ithaca took home its seventh consecutive Empire 8 Conference title.
Jones enjoyed a fantastic opening month, posting top-10 finishes at all three events IC participated in during September. The excellent start to the season began at the uber-competitive St. Lawrence Invitational on the weekend of September 3-4. After shooting an 83 (+11) to begin the tournament, Jones fired one of the best rounds of her career with a 74 (+2) to come in a tie for 10
th place, overall. Her nine stroke improvement helped Ithaca come in a tie for third place as a team.
Her next outing came at the William Smith Invitational two weeks later. She carded her second sub-80 round of the season with a 79 (+7) to jump several positions to finish third overall at the event. The Bombers went on to take the overall team title, their first of the 2016 fall campaign.
Jones rounded out the excellent month with her best two back-to-back rounds of the season to-date. She was clinical at the Cortland Country Club course, posting an opening round even-par 72 and following that with a 78 (+6) to win the individual title at the Martin-Wallace Invitational. The individual medalist title was the third of her collegiate career.
The Alton Bay, N.H., native was named Empire 8 Women's Golf Player of the Week following her performance at the Martin-Wallace Invite. Although not counted in the nomination for her latest award, Jones finished as medalist runner-up and was named an Empire 8 All-Conference First Team finisher following this past weekend's Empire 8 Championships. The Golfer of the Month honor from the ECAC is the first such honor of Jones' career.
